Are parents admitting children below four years to nursery classes for the 2011-2012 academic year at their own risk? Will their admission be withdrawn after being found to have violated a 2007 Delhi High Court (HC) order? The HC on Thursday sought a list of schools that plan to admit kids aged below four, as on March 31, 2011.

The court was hearing a contempt petition filed by Ashok Agarwal, founder of NGO Social Jurist against Delhi chief secretary Rakesh Mehta.

Asserting that it was wrong on the part of the Delhi government to remain silent on the age rule in its guidelines, Agarwal contended it has "deliberately and intentionally" disobeyed the directions of the HC, dated September 26, 2007, as per which, the minimum age for a child to enter a formal school in Delhi from the academic year 2008-2009, shall be four years on March 31 of the admission year.

He said the duration of pre-primary class shall be one year and the same should be the class immediately prior to Class I.

Justice G S Sistani sought the list of schools from the NGO, after Delhi government lawyer Zubeida Begum submitted before the court that there was no violation of rules.

Agarwal told the court that "the government... is still permitting all unaided private schools to continue the unjust, illegal and cruel practice of running two years of pre-primary classes and admitting children of three plus years age, instead of one year of pre-primary class and admitting children aged four plus years".

He told HT, "Parents admitting their children below four years will be doing it at their own risk.”

The Delhi HC had banned interviews, framed guidelines for nursery admission and fixed the age rule for the first time in response to a public interest litigation filed by Social Jurist in 2007.

I dont understd one thing why guys r  always ready to create probs for parents everytime wen one issue is still nt resolved abt lottery and point now u r raising issue of age...............an dtht too at the peak time when there  ronly few days left in the release of forms...........means parents shud be in confused state of mind tht it might b eposbl tht even after filling the forms they can change the age ................
i concur with u monika
plz sakshi do sth for this as it really creates disturbance in parents mind.........and plz sakshi give me list of some gud schools in west and north delhi...i m staying in vikas puri..and attesting authority are principals of govt schools or who else?????????????plz clear these things

Gazzeted officer/Notary is attesting authority sometime self attestation and very few schools like banyan tree asked for magistrate attestation last year

all like in spl groups pls  see groups of west and noth delhi all parents giving extraordinary inputs about list/dfeedback of schools

notary public who r sitting outside the court are they attesting authorities means attested by them will work out
yes some docs like first child/girl child  its school specific

i think child below 4 years is too young to join the formal school...cmon yaar let him enjoy his precious time of innocence. i support mr.agarwal....Delhi govt is corrupt n there is definitly nexus of govt and school mafia...

My dear friends, the age issue is very relevant. Is your peace of mind more important than your child's personality and psychological development??? Just a few days ago, several parents were complaining that the admission age was not changed from 3 to 4 despite this being one issue mentioned in the RTE act. Talk to any psychologist and he or she will tell you that 3 is not in the least the right age to start formal schooling. So, please give your support to Mr Agarwal. Even Mr Sumit Vohra has raised this very issue in TV discussions. So, please don't get perturbed and you can rest assured that it would be a great blessing for us parents if the age is changed to 4+.

dear ayush

if you feel your kid is small for school continue with playschools...and where was this personality and psychological development around 10 years back..now parents make lot of hue and cry about such things...at our times we went to school when we were 2.5/3 years....if this continues next demand will come for 5+ few parents can never be happy...but i have telling again and again it cant be 4+ as on 31st march 2011 !!!!! it can be 4+ as on 30th sep 2011 but not on 31st march 2011...nursery sessions cant go empty and this thing can create a gap of whole one year among classes in various schools..and just for sake of your kid we cant waste one year of urs...what about kids who will be 4 immediatly after 31st march??????

Rahul

I agree with you that 4+ should be based on 30th sept 2011.
yes i agree. ur right

Sakshi

Again confusing...it shud be decided before admission process starts...now if age got changed then it shud be applicable for next year means 2011-2012...not this yr...pls Sumit sir this is going to be disaster as all our efforts go waste then ..
