* Springdales School-Pusa Road is a non-minority school, but for this year’s nursery admissions, it has reserved 10 points for the minorities. Parents complain that the points to the minorities reduce the “already depleted” general-category seats in the school. There 102 seats in the school.
* Laxman Public School-Hauz Khas has put in two subjective questions in the application form for parents to answer. Although these questions have no weightage, parents are apprehensive that “the school might use the answers to judge candidates”.
* Mother’s International School-Aurobindo Marg has only three categories — neighbourhood, sibling and alumni. All others are kept out of its admission process.
* Sanskriti School-Chanakyapuri, which started in 1998 and had its first batch of pass-outs in 2005, has reserved five points for the alumni.
As nursery admissions pick up heat in the Capital, parents are struggling to decode not only the different categories used by schools, but also various diversions from the norms.
A parent who was standing outside Springdales School-Pusa Road to collect an application form for his daughter said: “How does the school explain this? Only minority institutes can reserve seats for minorities. This is a non-minority school.”
The final guidelines on nursery admissions issued by the Delhi government gives schools the freedom to formulate their own criteria that is “fair, just and within the ambit of the Right to Education Act”.
Of the 102 seats available in Springdales, 52 are for the general category, 26 for EWS, five for the staff children, four for the special needs category and 15 seats are for the school’s discretionary (management) quota.
Principal of the school, Ameeta Wattal, defends the decision to reserve seats for minority students. “We have always believed in heterogeneous classrooms. Why should minorities only go to minority schools? We have reserved points for the minorities in order to protect the diversity of the country.”
Laxman Public School principal Usha Ram backs her school’s decision to include questions for parents. “I don’t think there is anything wrong with putting subjective questions. The school wants to know if the parents are serious about getting their child admitted in the school. They won’t be judged on the answers they write.” However, a parent who had downloaded the admission form from the school’s website told Newsline, “Why do they want us to answer those questions at all if there is no weightage for them? The school might use the answers in case there is a tie, which is not fair.”
The questions are: “What type of education do you think is relevant and meaningful to your child in today’s scenario?” and “Why did you make Laxman Public School one of your preferences for your child’s schooling?”
Regarding the inclusion of only three categories in the forms, honorary director of Mother’s International School Indu Bala Pillai said: “We have very few sections for our nursery classes. If we include other categories, we need more space. What can we do?”
Meanwhile, Mahavira Model Senior School-GT Karnal Road gives points to the Jains. It also gives five points to vegetarians and five to non-smokers and non-drinkers. Principal S L Jain said: “We go by what the parent tells us. We do not need any affidavit for this.”
Schools like DPS-RK Puram and DPS-Mathura Road have reserved points for the children of sportspersons.
Principal of Sanskriti School-Chanakyapuri Abha Sahgal could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.

THE SOVEREIGN SCHOOL- apart from neighbourhood and other points, see at what they r giving points
1) they r giving 10 points, who will take transport. and transport rates are almost double.
2) 10 points to relative of parent.

What about a school like Venkateshwar Global School (VGS). Prospectus to be bought compulsorily with the application form for Rs.500/-. No display of selection criteria either on any notice board or on the school's website.
VSPK International again Rs.500/- for the application form along with the prospectus, and prospectus is compulsory.
Apeejay Pitampura, Rs. 400/- for giving the online registration number. Selection criteria is the most wierd one can think .
These schools are openly violating the norms laid down by the government which doesn't suit them. However, when it comes to reservation of seats under management quota (something which suits them), they immediately adapt those. The irony that we parents still are running after these schools to get our child learn moral values :(

In Venkateshwar Global School (VGS) prospectus is not compulsory, we bought forms without prospectus & they never insists us for the prospectus

I would say you are very lucky then. I had a long debate with the VGS Rohini yesterday, without any success. It was either a take it or leave it option. They even refused to give me the receipt of the payment, which they are bound to give.
I had given my feedback to the Zeenews team who was waiting outside asking the parents about their experience inside.
Can you also please share the admission criteria for VGS Rohini, as it is neither available at their website (www.vgs.co.in and www.vgs.org.in) nor it is displayed anywhere at the school, again a violation of the DoE norms. I even asked them about the point system, but they didn't provide any answer.

i went to KR MANGALAM vikas puri today , there were people to collect EWS category forms and they said it's over, and even for the general category they said 25 Rs form is over only 500 Rs wala form available.
All thanks to our government , who have equipped these school to do what ever they want , they can come up will all the guidelines and will talk about education for all , but can not ristrict the school to not go beyond 25 rs for the forms .what a pity . even at INDRAPRASTHA Paschim vihar they refused to give form with out prospectus and it was for 500 Rs.
Poor Public and we say we have government of the people and for the people.

i went to k r mangalam vikaspuri today and they just refused to give the form saying no forms are being sold as per DOE order to school when the parents asked for copy of the order they just said it is a verbal order. All this to just harass the parents like us who take leave from work but can't get the form..........

Need someone to take the school in court.... someone from somewhere need to do it...

I went to Rayan today and there is not a single application in EWS dropbox... this EWS has given school a free hand for donations...
I wish common sense prevail and someone somewhere is reading this and take on the schools...

Same was case with me in VGS,Rohini. School simply refused to give the form wihout Rs 500/- prospectus.
Is there any way to bring it to attention of DoE ?

Salwan School east delhi, charging Rs 200 for admission forms and handing over September 2010 newsletter in name of prospectus.
The principal and director flatly refused to talk and said it is management decision to sell form at Rs 200 and no arguments are acceptable.
They also said that "This is a govt recognised school and if you have any complaints, talk to government".
