Notice to six pvt schools
for flouting norms

By Mail Today Bureau in New Delhi

SIX private schools in Delhi have received notices from the state government asking why their admission process shouldn’t be cancelled.

The schools were reportedly flouting the nursery admission norms set by the Delhi government under the Right to Education ( RTE) Act. Most of these schools had asked the parents to disclose their income tax returns or income, and the others had set a date of birth criteria for admissions.

State education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, who chaired a meeting of top education department officials, confirmed the development.

He said: “ The schools were issued notice to explain and correct their stand after the education department received complaints.” The minister named Summerfields School, Ahlcon Public school, St Mary’s North Delhi, St Mark’s Janakpuri, St Francis De Sales School in West Delhi and DPS Rohini as the violators.

“ We are making it clear that the alleged discriminatory practices of these schools in nursery admissions will not be tolerated and procedural action will be initiated. If the schools don’t follow our directions, their admission process will be cancelled,” Lovely added.

Delhi has 1,165 government schools, 1,500 senior secondary public schools and 2,000 MCD schools, and many parents have complained that some schools are giving preference to the profession of the parents.

“ We are clear that anything that goes against the RTE or asks parents about their education or income is not acceptable. The parents should feel free to complain to local deputy directors of education,” Lovely said.

The education department has also taken an important decision regarding the admissions of the economically weaker section ( EWS) in schools. The admission draw for 25 per cent of EWS seas will be overseen by a single officer of the education department in each school.

Dear Mr Vohra,

Just wanted to know whether RTI (Right To Information) can be used in any way to make the schools mend their ways.

dear Mr. vohra,

some schools are also asking to attach the attested copies of the parents last qualifications, which i think is wrong

putting the qualifications in the form is different thing and attaching the attested copies is xtremely wrong. some measures should be taken against this and yes almost all the schools in dwarka are not at all giving the forms without prospectus where the average cost of the prospectus is Rs. 500

Gyan Bharti is also asking for parents educational certificates....which is against against the directives....somebody please being this to the notice of concerned deptt / personnel.
i think this certificate of qualification is nt much in west delhi schools except indraprastha paschim vihar but here the prob with dps dwarka bal bharti pitam pura bal bharti dwarka  and springdales r giving more than 50 points to sibling and alumni ......................where parents of first child stand nowhere....

dear Mr. vohra,

Apeejay Sheaikh Sarai are charging  400/- in the name of registration number. So technicaly they are selling nothing but a number for 400/-..

More over when i filled up the form and printed it - all details I entered were messed up - it held a entirely-unknown details for Res-Address/Father-name/father'soffice address/father's-occupation and even the Catagory- (as staff which I didn't seleted). I fortunately have take print-screen for the form-details which I filled. And I guess that most of the forms got  same father's name "Navin Kumar Kalyan" (I don't know who :) ) - and when I called up this person I came to know that he was getting phone calls since morning. What a big mess.....

When i called up the school they told me to send a mail - which I will... But imagine that they will evaluate based on this database - oh my god..
