Lottery system lacks transparency’

It seems that the lottery method adopted by schools to select students for nursery has not gone well with parents. Many parents alleged that this method has reduced the transparency in the nursery admissions procedure. Many schools which conducted a draw of lots for general category for nursery admissions are facing the same charges. Notably, the lottery system has been introduced in the nursery admission procedure from the current session.

A parent who had applied to Bal Bharti Public School, Rohini said, “The school conducted a lottery for nursery applicants on Thursday, but I was not even informed about it. This is so vague. According to my calculations, I must have scored 45 points. I am hearing that the school called up the parents of students who scored 45 points.” Bal Bharti Public School, Rohini conducted a draw of lots for all applicants who scored 45 points on Thursday. The school conducted a draw because there was a tie among many applicants at 45 points.

Another parent, a resident of Dwarka, said, “There are many schools which are not calling the parents at the time of conducting the draw. I think it is their duty to call us at that time because ultimately it is the future of our child that is at stake.”

Citing an example, the parent added that Mount Carmel School, Dwarka conducted a draw without calling the parents. However, the parent added, “I found the system at Bal Bharti Public School, Dwarka fair because they called me on January 25 when they conducted a draw for 356 students who had scored 45 points each.” There are 101 seats for the general category at Bal Bharti Public School, Dwarka.

Sumit Vohra, the founder of admissionsnursery.com, said, “The schools should call the parents when they conduct a draw for the nursery admissions. Not calling the parents at the time of draw indicates that the lottery system lacks transparency.”

Similarly, Laxman Public School, Hauz Khas also conducted a draw of lots for applicants in the general category who scored 65 points. The website of the school clearly says that there were more than 1,000 applicants who scored 65 points so, draw of lots was conducted for them by the executive council members of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) on Thursday. Raman Sharma, who had applied here for his three-year-old son said, “This is unfair. The school should have informed us.”

Laxman Public School Principal Usha Ram said, “We conducted a draw in front of the PTA for the general category. There was no need to call the parents in this case. Parents are to be called only when we conduct a draw for the economically weaker sections (EWS) category.

If they was nothing to hide, then the school would have conducted lottery in front of the parents. There are many schools that have done this. Tagore International School EOK conducted the draw in front of the parents and a DOE Official. In fact, except for the first chit drawn by the DOE official, all other chits were drawn by parents themselves. This is Transparency. Anything else should not be acceptable to parents.
It is a unfair, DOE must take action against these school
DOE MUST TAKE ACTION IMMEDIATELY !!
I Concur  with You Mr Tauseef !!

Schools are not transparent , time Govt . lays down guidelines for transparency as well as Schools are not adhering to dates (as per RTE guidelines ) 1st Feb 1st List all schools, all list should have detailed break up of points , I liked Jaspal Kaur way where they have displayed breakup of points atleast on there notice board and parents can correct also DPS Rohini where online we can see points , but why other schools cannot do even this bit are they hiding something. Govt is requested to lay down strict transparency guidlines. As already we are losing hope , things need to be clear . One thing is for sure we are calculating some points but schools are calculating there points not comming out in the open with schewed points syste of there own .... very unfaire as already most of the parents are loosing because of not in category of EWS, Sibling and Alumni and some also not falling in distance ... all the best to all and congrats to those who got so far ...

I think Laxman public should do the lottery again in front of parents..................we should raise this concern
agreed....Laxman Public School need to do lottery again in front of parents
useless GOVT and utterly useless guidelines!

I have been a witness to the draw of lottery conducted by Tagore International, East Of Kailash. Eventhough my daughter did not make it to the final list (very disappointing) I must say that the School did a great job of ensuring tranparency (more than 1000 parents as well as representative from DOE were witness to this process) At every stage the Principal took the consent of the parents to decide how and at what intervals they should shuffle the lots, parents were invited to pick the lottery and verbal feedback of parents was taken to understand if they were satisfied with the process. I think other schools must lean from this experience. The school had displayed the list of students eligible for lottery on Tuesday (25 jan) and held the actual draw of loterry on 27 Jan (10 am onwards). They were transparent about the overall cut off points for students elible for draw of loterry. There are however number of other schools who have not been transparent about the cutoff point for students elible for draw of lottery . I think we must presurize such schools to be be open and tranparent about the cut off point atleast.

EVEN I WAS THERE FOR TIS EOK DRAW OF LOTS ...MY SON CUD NT MAKE TO THE FINAL LIST BT ATLEAST HE WAS GIVEN A FAIR CHANCE....THE SCHOOL CONDUCTED A VERY FAIR DRAW OF LOTS AND ALL THE OTHER SCHOOLS SHUD TAKE SOME LESSON FROM THEM.....

Today i went to MODREN PUBLIC SCHOOL,SHALIMAR BAGH,they have display the list of EWS candidates who are eligible for the draw of lots by point system, with minimum of scoring 60 point in EWS category. i live in rohini so my child name is not there in the list. They have list of only 88 candidates in EWS category who are eligible for the draws of lots.

Any one reply is this fare to have point system in EWS category also.As i go to Prabhu dayal school, shalimar bagh today for draws of lots of EWS,they make draws from all the applications come under the EWS category.

What the issue of point system in EWS category.........is it correct....

Mr Vohra,

DoE can only issue notices to LPS,

Laxman public school is the worst school, they were selling the form at 300, i was the only parent who argued with that you can only sell the form for rs 25, i event went to meet the pricipal MRS USHA RAM but she did not meet me.

I even raised the complaint to DOE which is still pending with no reply from any official............

We are just mere spectators and cannot do anything apart from raising complaint.......

DOE told at the begning that any school voilate the DOE guideline , their admisstion will be cancelled but can DOE take any action................the answer is NO.........

DoE/HRD actually do not have teeth to bite the school.................

LPS may just get away with mere WARNING by a notice.............

Sad that we are part of such corrupt system............and our child future is in DARK.
