Points system discriminatory, say parents
Chances of securing a nursery seat in the Capital’s schools are proving to be extremely bleak if one’s child does not fall into categories like sibling, alumni and girl child, or in the management or EWS quotas.

With many city schools having released their first lists for pre-school admissions, it appears there is very little room left for the children belonging to the general category who do not secure points in these categories.

Many parents allege that the points system have come in the way of admission. The results announced by schools so far, the parents claim, give the impression that admission is a prerogative of only those who already have a sibling in the school or have parents in its alumni.

“I had applied at 22 schools in South Delhi, but could not manage to get even in one,” wrote Rahul Dhar, a disgruntled parent, on www.admissionsnursery.com, an online parents’ forum.

Dr Supradip, a scientist who had applied at 10 schools for his son’s admission this year, wrote: “Nothing left to share except a sorry figure... Not a single school offered admission to my son. He did not get selected because he is my first born and I am not an alumni of any Delhi school.”

The Directorate of Education (DoE) has allowed schools this year to frame their own selection criteria based on “just and rationale” means. As per DoE rules, the schools have to keep aside 25 per cent of the seats for students belonging to EWS. For the rest of the seats, schools adopted the points system. Most schools have reserved 50 per cent of the seats meant for the general category for the sibling or alumni quota.

For example, all 77 candidates selected by a reputed school in Vasant Vihar have secured points either under the sibling or alumni category.

Many schools have given up to 10 points for a girl child, which resulted in a clean sweep by girls in the general category at several top institutions.

Ashok Agarwal, founder of NGO Social Jurist, blamed the government for this crisis. “When you allow schools to do what they like, the consequences will always be like this,” he says.

We need to do something, this is really absurd. Can someone tell me is this not violation of RTE act if you give points for alumini and that also as large as 25 points. Can govt tell what the parents of those kids who have not got admissions in any school do? We cannot lie down and take this. Also does someone know the criteria for DPS mathura road? There are not mention of how they selected the children.

Sub: Richmond Global Public School, Miyanwali Nagar,Rohtak Road, New Delhi-87, unethically way adopting in EWS admission in nursery class in the academic year 2011-12.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I like to bring to your kind notice that West Delhi School were unethically way adopting in EWS admission in nursery class in the academic year 2011-12, totally discriminatory, non-transparent and unaccountable method of selection of children for admission.

According Right to Education Act provision that makes it mandatory for private schools to reserve 25 per cent seats for students from the economically weaker sections of the neighborhood. On 07/02/2011 Richmond Global Public School, Miyanwali Nagar,Rohtak Road, New Delhi-87, unethically way adopting in lottery draw system. This is purely a violation of rules, We were surprised to see that the school gates were closed, we request to gate-man for open the gate, gateman ignore our request then we call the Police Control Room & Press Media for violation of RTE-2009. After some time came the local Police then open the gate and parents enter the draw spot. Although a large number of Parents required checking his ward’s name in draw box & transparent lottery draw in front of the parents. But school management ignores the Parents demand. All Parents lodge the FIR in Police Station Miyanwali Nagar, against Richmond Global Public School, Miyanwali Nagar,Rohtak Road, New Delhi-87.

In view of the above facts and circumstances, it is requested that you may kindly intervene in this matter and direct the management of Richmond Global Public School, Miyanwali Nagar,Rohtak Road, New Delhi-87, to draw again in front of the parents under EWS quota.

Thanking you,

With regards,

The point system is not fair at all, even after getting points for neighbourhood unable to get admission due no sibling and no alumini points.

Criteria for points is changing every year making it comfortable for the schools to have their own criteria

I applied in 17 schools but got no response....admission procedure is pathetic....
Point system is useless, encourages discrimination, is an eye wash and allows "school management and principals to enjoy their status". My daughter rather getting admission in our vincnity, gets admission to a school 9 kms away.I openly admit that "I LIVE IN A COUNTRY OF FOOLISH RULE MAKERS " .
We have applied in so many schools , but all in vain .In only one school have choosen our child .Some schools are  not showing even their results ,how they have selected the children. We think it is the game of rich people to admit their kinds in branded schools. We both the parents are from outside Delhi, and in job there is no alumni,no sibling etc where should we go .Results of St.Thomas was very unfair.
