Is it safe to send the kids to school now? Do we have a go ahead from WHO or the health ministry? Will small children follow all the COVID protocols? Do we have a guarantee that the kids will not be infected even when they are not being vaccinated? Thoughts.......?

Hi Aditya, Being a doctor I can understand your concern.
While I understand the protocol but I believe that as parents teaching hygiene starts at home, after all families are going on vacation, playing Holi, attending weddings without vaccine. The two year loss specially in formative years will take time.
DDMA has given go ahead and it is in more of school interest make school children follow protocols.
If they remain closed, then they won't be getting the fees for which they are fighting in court.
Pls see DOE order below.

WHO is itself still exploring and keeps issuing new statements, but I don't blame them as Covid is Enigma.

No one can predict the future, but Mental and physical health are equally important components of overall health.
We will cross the bridge when it comes, but right now it is high time to send children to school.
Till when we can make sit children sit at home ?
Hope it helps !!
I concur with Dr Juhi .
Well, its an interesting point, and there would always be mixed opinions on it.
Every home has a different situation and it cannot be a “one shoe fits all” scenario.
- for instance, the kids with moderate backgrounds having no or poor access to Internet or smart devices are losing out on crucial learning in their precious years.
- a class 2 or higher kid can perhaps manage an online class; but a nursery or a kg student cannot attend an online class alone. That would require one of the parents to take a half day and sit along with the kid. Is that possible when both are working parents ? Not really.
So for such cases, what are the options available ? either the kid should miss / drop the complete year or we would need a physical offline school to operate.
- We also need to consider the impact on mental health and well-being of teachers as well. They are also overburdened with online plus offline teaching, assignments and exams. The hybrid model is taking a great toll on teachers and staff as well. Their life schedule is also getting disturbed by taking double the classes to ensure that online as well as offline students are not missing out on any classes. If they take a combined class for online and offline, its a logistical nightmare and ends up slightly dissatisfying for the online ones. Everyone (teachers and students) need a break from the screen time.
- And there’s another point - its also about following the law of the land. When the governments felt the lockdown was essential, they implemented it and we all went to online mode. Now they have assessed, and believe we are good to move back to offline mode, then we are complying with it. If the schools were flouting the government norms, then of course we should raise our voice against them. But if they are following the official rules, they are not wrong then. We surely can share our opinions and just like any government decision (central or state), there would always be people in favour or against it.
- And no doubt, it comes with an element of risk. There is no denying that. Will all kids and school staff, practice all covid norms 100% throughout the day ? Not possible ! But we all can wish, they try their best to..
As a beginners check, we should discuss with school and validate that all school staff should be vaccinated, and they in turn should ensure that all parents of all kids are vaccinated. This would indeed go a long way in controlling the potential infection rate.
Therefore, in this scenario, its really important to keep a dialogue open with the schools and teachers to ease out our worries, doubts and anxieties.
Again, its only a personal opinion (nothing right or wrong about it)…
You nailed it .
