The students of the Ramjas School, Anand Parvat, got a sigh of relief with the Delhi high court on Tuesday ordering the rollback of the `400 tuition fee hike effected by the school authorities in March 2011.
“The Directorate of Education (DOE), government of Delhi, is directed to pass an order against the school to rollback the hiked fee in four weeks and inform the court by September 9, the next date of hearing in the case,” said Justice Kailash Gambhir.
The court passed the order after DOE’s lawyer informed the court that the committee, set up by the department, has found in an inquiry that the school has violated the government’s April 2010 notification.
As per the notification, it was stated that the annual fee hike is not mandatory on the part of the school and schools must explore the possibilities of utilising the existing fund before hiking the tuition fee.
The court was hearing a petition filed by a group of parents alleging Ramjas School in Anand Parbat has arbitrarily hiked the tuition fee for the year 2011-2012.
