Nursery rush; Few seats, many aspirants

Noida: As registration forms for nursery admissions are out in Noida schools, parents are making a beeline to the administrative offices of various schools in the city. Most schools in the city have adopted the `first come first served` policy as far as admissions are concerned.

Although schools have started selling forms a week before the date of registration, parents complained that forms were declared out of stock in some of the schools on the first day. According to the Rockwood School, applications for this year have been doubled than previous years, thereby reducing their general seats for nursery admissions. "We usually expect around 160 candidates for nursery, whereas this time we`ve already received 320 applications. Even though we don`t select by draw of lots but we give as many forms as possible and usually there are over a 1,000 applications. After registration closes, parents and children are called for a personal interview conducted over several days and finally we choose 160 children for the upcoming nursery session,," said Sunit Tandan, principal, Rockwood School.

On the other hand, some schools including APJ refused to comment on the number of seats available and the applications given out. "We conduct a draw of lots so it`s always a fair procedure for the admission of the candidates. The forms start rolling out in the first week of September and parents usually keep a tab on the date of sale," said a spokesperson from APJ School.

Meanwhile, Parents have been running around from one school to the other, collecting as many admission forms as possible because most of them are not certain whether their child will make it to a good school or not. "The child is so young that neither can we gauge his talents nor train him in any way. So I have filled forms in three schools as it is always good to have options available," said Rohit Sharma, a HCL executive and father of two.

Noida Authority notice to schools asking 10% seats for rural kids
Posted by News Desk on Tuesday 6th of September 2011 03:49:38 PM

Noida: As the admission season kicks off, Noida Authorities have issued notices to 20 schools in the city in relation to nursery admission. As per the notice, all the 20 schools included in the list will have to reserve 10% seats for the rural kids failing which strict action will be taken against the school authorities.

Moreover, schools will also have to maintain a record book containing the details about the percentage of rural student intake into their respective schools which may be asked by the authorities in future.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer Chandra Bhushan Singh said, “We have sent notices to 20 schools across the city on September 5. We are expecting response from them by September 7 which will bring transparency in our education system. This is done to allow rural kids to be a part of modern learning system.”

Schools that have received notices from Noida Authorities includes Ryan International, Army Public School, DPS, ACC Convent, Modern Public School, Bal Bharati Public School, Somerville School, Central School, Vishwa Bharati, Cambridge, Amity, Father Agnel, Subroz Education Society, Apeejay, VR Education Trust, Khetan, Jagran, Kothari and DAV.

Hi,

I spoke to Somerville yesterday and they informed that a public notice regarding nursery admission would be published in HT-Delhi edition dated 07-Sep-11. I could not locate the same. If someone has seen the same, may please share.

Also, the form uploaded on Somerville website mentions it for Preparatory school. Are Nursery & Preparatory same in Somerville?

Regards,

Abhishek

Abhishek see the SCANNED COPY OF THE HT AD AND THE LAST DATE OF FORM SUBMISSION IS 24SEP AS MENTIONED IN AD AND NOT 25 SEP AS SOME PARENTS MAILED ME THEY GOT WRONG INFO FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE  (25TH BEING SUNDAY ..HOW THE FORMS CAN BE SUBMITTED WITH PHOTO AND BIRTH CERTIFICATE)
