“Since the regulations in nursery admissions are fairly new, schools were able to admit children as and how they liked. This resulted in screening on the basis of financial and educational backgrounds of families. Giving admission on the basis of alumni ensures that these considerations are brought into play once more,” said Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionnursery.com, a portal on nursery admissions in the city that has 35,000 parents as members.
In the past, schools have awarded as many as 30 points out of 100 for alumni, almost wiping out the possibility of kids of non-alumni to get admission.
Many parents who have relocated to Delhi and completed their studies elsewhere have also objected to the rule. “This criterion is unfair for people who have relocated to Delhi or have studied in Gurgaon or Noida. Distance and siblings are categories that make sense, but points for alumni are discriminatory,” said Madhulika Lala, a parent.
“If points for educational qualification and income are unfair, so are those for alumni as they help indicate both these criteria,” said Ganagdeep Kaur Saini, another parent.
But there is little hope that the guidelines would be changed this year. “The guidelines are going to be the same. We cannot make new guidelines every year,” said a senior official at the Delhi education department.

Vohra sir ,Thank you very much
I second that - alumni points should go! Also, the points for girl child is discriminatory. Benefits can be given in form of waivers or monetary benefits!
@ Anand, Mr Vohra had stated that no extra points for girl child and All delhi public school association lead by R C Jain have last year AND also recently on 19th nov have given statement in hindustan hindi edition , NO extra points for girl child
Thanks Sakshi ... fully support Sumit's views
I personally feel that the Ist criteria for nursery admissions should be distance from shcool and other criteria's should follow. In fact I disagree with the EWS reservation also. We are creating a difference at a very early stage of the childs development getting in these rules .
Couldn't agree more with you Vishal. Quotas of all kinds should go! There should be no reservations of any kind. You can incentivise but not create differences on terms of sex, parent income (EWS), parent education (Alumni) or brethern (sibling)
i think sibling is must.ask parents having 2 children
I don't agree, While considering girl child points we have to see that these guidelines are for whole society residing in Delhi, which includes liberal, moderate as well as orthodox thinkers. We can't deny the fact that Girls still are considered as a liability in some portion of our society.
A liberal thinker would take equal pain for making sure his boy or girl gets the education they can afford, but nobody can surely say the same about orthodox minds.
Girl child points helps in making admissions for girls easier, thus making it possible for as much education for girls as possible.
Discrimination is admission based on religion, caste and wealth.
