Ghaziabad: The Indirapuram branch of Delhi Public School was plunged into confusion on Wednesday when it was reported that the UP government’s education department had withdrawn the no-objection certificate it had issued to the school. Worried parents of a number of students rushed to the school.

Intimation of the withdrawal of the NOC, which is essential for the school to remain affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), was sent to the board on December 29. A copy of this has reportedly been addressed to the school management.

Ghaziabad district inspector of schools (DIOS) Ravindra Singh explained that the NOC ‘‘which was awarded to the school in 2004 is issued after a school is found to meet some essential parameters. It has been withdrawn because the school authorities have failed to produce some documents required by the department. Some of the documents were required to be produced in a court where the state principal secretary of education had been summoned.’’Singh said the document withdrawing the NOC is issued by the governor and that the CBSE will have to withdraw its recognition.

Parents who didn’t wish to be quoted found the sudden move quite strange and arbitrary. ‘‘This is amazing. The school is good in all respects. The students are from decent homes. The bureaucracy cannot be allowed to ruin their prospects. We are going to agitate,’’ one of them said.

School manager Ashish Kumar Sharma, however, said, ‘‘We have no intimation of any cancellation. We have not received any communication from the education department in the past few weeks.’’ Principal Meeta Rai denied having received any notice from DIOS. She said it could be a mix-up with another school and they would meet the officials on Thursday.
