Dear Shweta

HOW TO CHOOSE A GOOD SCHOOL?

IMPORTANT PARAMETERS ARE:

1. Focus should be on holistic development and academics both

2. Student teacher ratio (optimum) is 1:15 (1:15 ( Atleast in  Nursery and Kg  ) so if class strength is of 30 children then 2 teachers in the class.

3. Distance from school

4. Safe transport by school…private vans are not safe

5. Don’t just go for BIG BRANDS

6. Homework Issues

7. How much importance is given to Parents Involvement?

8. How does a teacher behave with children and makes their studies interesting?

9. Take feedback from parents who's children are already studying in the school.

10.Reputation of the school .

DIFFERENCES IN THE CURRICULUM

1) A LEVEL (CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY BASED)-CHILD FRIENDLY PRACTICAL INTERNATIONAL CURRICULUM.

2) IB – It stands for International Baccalaureate.

IT IS SWITZERLAND BASED CURRICULLUM with PRACTICAL AND SCIENTIFIC APPROACH THAN A LEVEL VERY HELPFUL. This is really useful for those willing to go for further studies in the International Colleges and Universities.

3) CBSE- This is the MOST POPULAR THEORETICAL CURRICULUM IN DELHI/NCR AND INDIA.

4) ICSE- CONSIDERED TO BE TOUGH AND BETTER IN LEARNING FUNDAMENTALS THAN CBSE.( but at the same time CBSE has edge over ICSE at many  places)

BUT ITS A DEBATABLE  TOPIC WHICH IS BETTER :|

So now its your personal preference to choose out of above mentioned varieties of schools providing the formal education in India. One has to observe whether they are really recognized or not.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FRANCHISEE & CORE SCHOOLS

Core school is actual management school while franchisee pays some yearly amount to the main school MANAGEMENT to run the school according to their norms. However, it is always does cost cutting.(BUT FEW FRANCHISEE ARE DOING EQUALLY  GOOD )

Some branded names have franchisees in NCR and they are not core schools.

Core schools should be given first preference

Before taking admission confirm from the school also whether its core school or not.

Apart from your great tips Parents should check out if the school is recognised one to the respective boards.

Dear Lathaaji

This is one of most imp point as some new schools in Delhi did not disclose about this to the parents last year !!

I would like to add few facts about International schools.

Many schools have queued to call themselves 'International' schools, but some of these international courses are yet to get recognition in India. Most of these schools just follow the international syllabus, but are not affiliated to any board of education in India or abroad. In addition, these schools do not come under the scanner of either the central or state school education departments. With building approvals from local bodies, it is relatively easier to start an international school without going through the bureaucratic maze.

Eventhough IGCSE is globally recognised, there are apprehensions about the validity of IGCSE in the Indian context. "Content wise IGCSE and IB are more advanced and student friendly than CBSE and ICSE. Getting affiliation from international boards is also relatively easy as compared to CBSE and ICSE.

An international school is an institution that educates students from different parts of the country and the world. Thus such schools are culturally diverse.

Indian universities seldom entertain students from schools that offer IGCSE and IB curriculums. These students can avail only the NRI quota to get admission for professional courses. Most parents are unaware of this aspect. Though there is no official ban on international school students from joining Indian universities and colleges, the fact is that the admission procedures are tougher for them.

Unfortunately, the newly started schools in Delhi are not as yet ready to accommodate foreign students. Eminent educationist S Rajagopal makes a forceful point against the international syllabus. "In Europe too, different countries adopt different curriculum. Education should reflect the cultural values and needs of the local community."

Moreover CBSE schools are will follow CBSE-i (CBSE International) a global curriculum which help students to compete better at international level in near future.

Lathaaji,Very Valid points ,parents are being misguided by the name of IB and IGCSE and are not aware that many Indian universities do not recognise them.
