Taking a cue from parents whose children had missed out on admission in reputed schools last year, more and more parents have begun looking at options in the National Capital Region (NCR) as a safe bet. With many of these schools coming out with forms this week, many parents are getting ready for a long admission season. In Delhi, the nursery admission season starts in December and goes on till March.

"I am keeping track of admission announcements in all Gurgaon schools. My brother's daughter was not able to get admission in any school in Delhi despite there being five good schools in our neighbourhood. I don't want the same to happen to my daughter. So I am also applying to schools in Gurgaon to raise the chances of her getting admission in a good school," said Shalini De, a housewife from Saket.

But the admission process in the NCR towns, however, is not as simple as it is in Delhi.

With no guidelines, schools employ any method of admission. So while one school may have a lottery system, another may be scheduling interactions with parents, and yet another may be following a self-styled points system.

The age criteria too is not fixed with some schools declaring the minimum age as three and other declaring three-and-half years.

"There is no uniformity in the selection process. For parents, this is a huge problem as parents will have to run around a lot to meet the different sets of requirements of each school. The governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana must recognise the need for guidelines and act accordingly," said Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com, a website that guides parents through the admission process.

Despite the lack of clarity, schools in NCR towns continue to be good options for parents in east and south Delhi. "I live in Mehrauli and sending my kid to a school in Gurgaon rather than one in Delhi made much more sense, and I am quite happy with my choice," said Abhinav Makhija, whose son goes to DPS Sushant Lok.

Branches of Delhi Public School, Amity International School and Shiv Nadar School in Noida, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad have already announced the schedule for their admission processes.

While Amity International is selling forms till August 23, Shiv Nadar School has not declared a last date so far. Scottish High International School in Gurgaon will start the registration from Thursday and has declared that the admission will be on a first-come-first-served basis

Just half-way through the school year, the admission process for next year has already begun for some.
 
Sale of forms for admission to nursery classes will start this week in many schools in Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad. DPS Sushant Lok and Vasundhara, Amity International Schools in Noida and Gurgaon, Ardee School Gurgaon and Shiv Nadar School in Noida and Gurgaon are all set to steal a march over their rivals in the Capital, where the process starts only in December.

With Delhi schools getting increasingly tough to crack, more and more parents are opting for reputed schools in the NCR where the competition is less fierce.
 
The NCR has one drawback though — the admission process here isn’t regulated like in Delhi. Therefore, a large number of NCR schools close admissions in October itself while others start the process only in January.

This is so true....last year we were not able to fill the forms as our child is January 2009 born and in most of the schools the age criteria is for 3 yrs at the time of applying and now when i am trying to apply for amity it is not accepting as my child does not come in their age criteria...please tell what to do??

You are eligible for many school  who are flexible in age  like Lotus valley and many more good new school(some prefer elder kids as they are well trained)

Sakshi , I am really confused choosing between Lotus Valley , Shiv Nadar & Manav Rachna. Where Shiv Nadar doesnt even have any infrastructure, lotus valley is also comparatively new, and some of my research feed back says Lotus Valley is very commercial , manav rachna has an edge to the others in terms of having established infra.

Megha, Many parents have  same views about SB and LVIS and opted for MRIS.

Manav Rachna give equal focus on holistic development plus academics.( New age school) Sought after.

If you are looking for holistic growth ( overall development plus academics then go for MRIS).

Sakshi. Yes I did read  about Topper feom  MRIS in news papers.

Again many thanks for helping me with genuine inputs.I would be going for manav rachna  sec 46 , i heard even sec 51 is good.

I feel that govt should take steps to stop such menace. Last year, my sister who stays in south delhi had lost Rs. 50,000/- because of this time gap between Delhi and Gurgaon school admissions. Many parents like her deposit fee upto a lakh to reserve a seat and lose most of the money if they get a seat in Delhi. NCR schools are well aware of this panic situation of parents and have been successfully running this scam which runs into crores every year.  

Hence, I request the members and govt. to stop this practice and make process uniform across India.

Well said by Mr.Vohra. NCR admissions are really complicated with no uniform admission policy. For example Noida's educational institutions come under Noida Authority and RTE guidelines still remain as a paper work. In case of Haryana, rules related to Section 2 regarding capitation fee and screening procedure  during admission is not mentioned in Haryana State RTE Act eventhough it is  considered into school recognition part. Hope Haryana Govt. will take needful strp to implement RTE Act and stop schools
haressing parents and kids at time of admission. REPA formed by the Govt is still a ????

Thanks a ton Sumit sir for again raising NCR parents' valid concerns in admission agony for their tiny kids. We hope the govt. of UP & Haryana may heed into it and form an uniform guideline as per DOE norms.

Thanks a lot Lathaa ji as always for helping the needy parents in time with your vaulable inputs and for making us updated with the pathetic RTE implementaion by authorities in our NCR area..

There are a few well known schools for such large pool of students in NCR with varied and complicated admission critera/guidelines having hefty admission fees & vague refund norms..so confusion prevails.

What AN.COM has always facilitated and Sumit sir stresses on the same is to make parents more proactive, informed, prepared and thus empowered to secure atleast one school for their kids in as hassle free manner as possible...

I totally agree with Mr Vohra. Education in Gurgaon has become a "business". No standard criteria and process. I would have preferred admitting my child to Delhi schools rather Gurgaon. Distance was the only factor which forced me to choose Gurgaon. I was quite disappointed by the way people are running these schools. My experience with schools like LVIS and Scotish High was very bitter. I wish the state governments take some action and standardised the process to improve the education standards.
