City schools may be required to send their admission criteria and basic points system to the directorate of education (DOE) by the end of the month. The schools, DOE officials said, can prepare the criteria and send it to the directorate before the release of admission guidelines that are not expected to change much this year.
“The guidelines have been prepared after a lot of deliberation over the past three-four years. They have been changed according to the orders of the high court,” said Amit Singla, education director, Delhi government.
“The present guidelines give autonomy to the schools while ensuring that there is no discrimination against students. Any big changes in the guidelines should not be expected,” Singla added.
A suggestion to centralise the process of application using a system as the one used by Delhi University is also under the scanner for the upcoming admission season. Experts, however, have dismissed the suggestion as “unworkable”.
“The schools are private and autonomous. We can’t dictate terms to them. In DU, the colleges fall under a centralised system and that is why the centralised forms work well,” said a DOE official.
School principals agree. “Every school will have their own criteria. Some schools give points to vegetarian parents and children. A centralised form will not be able to accommodate all these choices,” said RC Jain, president, Delhi State Public Schools Management Association.
Another criterion under the scanner currently is the upper age limit. According to last years’ guidelines, the minimum age limit for a student to get admission in nursery is 3+.
There, however, is no upper limit. Some schools give preference to students who are a little over four years.
The matter is currently sub-judice and the DOE will come out with guidelines on the same once the matter is decided.

@Ankit, You need to submit the first born child affidavit, in the schools which ask for it (schools which gives points for first born).
HI!
I WAS GOING THROUGH THE COMMENTS MADE BY OTHERS WHAT IS CAP ?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFO.
CAP is Centralised Admission Process.
Thanks Sakshi for keeping us updated from time to time.
@ Megha for Kg Min 4 yr on 31 mar of the academic year.
So DOE is not keen to follow CAP. Why can't DOE dictate the terms to schools? If not what are the real powers given to DOE?
“The present guidelines give autonomy to the schools while ensuring that there is no discrimination against students. Any big changes in the guidelines should not be expected,” - Amit Singla
CAP is rejected to ensure autonomy of schools. What autonomy? When Govt already issuing guidelines to admit child based on certain criteria then what autonomy they are talking about? Is freedom to extort money from parents is autonomy? Govt left millions of loopholes in the system for schools to use it for their own benefits. And when someone tries to suggest to close these holes then these ******** ministers start giving frivolous justification.
@Manu i agree with you and as school lobby is very strong ,they won't accept CAP . As back door entries won't have any scope.
@Sreeju, It totally against the Doe guidelines.we will highlight this in media(in case you agree to talk to media people). Even VIS sec 10 had started but we got it stopped with the help of parents and media.
My daugher is born on 15 April 2010...She will miss the admission this time just by 15 days....
