City schools may be required to send their admission criteria and basic points system to the directorate of education (DOE) by the end of the month. The schools, DOE officials said, can prepare the criteria and send it to the directorate before the release of admission guidelines that are not expected to change much this year.
“The guidelines have been prepared after a lot of deliberation over the past three-four years. They have been changed according to the orders of the high court,” said Amit Singla, education director, Delhi government.
“The present guidelines give autonomy to the schools while ensuring that there is no discrimination against students. Any big changes in the guidelines should not be expected,” Singla added.
A suggestion to centralise the process of application using a system as the one used by Delhi University is also under the scanner for the upcoming admission season. Experts, however, have dismissed the suggestion as “unworkable”.
“The schools are private and autonomous. We can’t dictate terms to them. In DU, the colleges fall under a centralised system and that is why the centralised forms work well,” said a DOE official.
School principals agree. “Every school will have their own criteria. Some schools give points to vegetarian parents and children. A centralised form will not be able to accommodate all these choices,” said RC Jain, president, Delhi State Public Schools Management Association.
Another criterion under the scanner currently is the upper age limit. According to last years’ guidelines, the minimum age limit for a student to get admission in nursery is 3+.
There, however, is no upper limit. Some schools give preference to students who are a little over four years.
The matter is currently sub-judice and the DOE will come out with guidelines on the same once the matter is decided.

Sakhi Ji,can we apply for different school on-line or we have to go to the school to collect the form & submit the same in that partcular school.
@Arabinda,Its school specific like you can fill online in many schools like DPS,Shriram,Vasant Valley etc. at the same time you need to go to Springdales to collect and submit the forms.
Some schools like Dps Vasant kunj will ask you to download the form and send it by courier.
Sakshi Ma'am, I understand we need to apply at least in 10-12 schools for fair chance of admission. Please suggest good schools (fees approx 5k-6k per month) near Dayanand Colony. I am aware of some nearby schools Tagore International, Blue Bells, Indian School and DPS EOK, though not their fee structures.
@Shilpika Other schools are
Frank Anthony, Kalka Public Schools, Kr Mangalam,Summerfields, Laxman Public school.
Thanks for the names,Sakshi Ma'am. Its such a relief to have someone who will give us correct information. You all are doing a great job. Thanks a lot.
Anytime Shilpika :)
Sakshi Ma'am, We just have neighborhood points and first born/girl child points (given by few schools) to bank on, for a chance of admission. That is why I was planning to concentrate on nearby schools. I have heard people saying that they applied in 20-22 schools, still could not get admission. Do we need to increase the number of schools we apply? I am all confused. Please guide.
Yes, wait for guidelines and then apply in max number of schools.
