Lets not generalize. Remember that with 3 years as age criteria, children born in Apr/May will end up losing an entire year and end up sitting at home till they're almost 5. This can not be allowed in today's day and age and amounts to depriving a learning opportunity for growing children. Lets stop using the worst case scenario of a child who completes 3 today and is sent to school tomorrow as the norm. This is the exception.
dear sir,
in my opinion if the age cant be increased to 4+ then some middle path shoul be sought. the age criteria can be 3.5 and above. what do u have to say for it?
because think of a child who's born in first week of april and turns 3 then?
and many cases like that can be given
so lets not focus on a particular case but to be general and specific and think in favour of children as a whole.4+ age is the best if done else 3.5 should be considered also..
i also feel that 4+ is the right age for a formal school environment...........as it is life is very stressful for these young souls...please let them have some peace till they atleast understand what schooling is all about........
there shd preference for siblings atleast for one sibling as because of it parents face a lot of problem handling 2 school.
Hi Sumit,

This point system is just an eye wash to show that School has no say in admission process. In practice every school keeps about 20-25 points towards school discretion / parent interaction/ parents recognition etc which they play with to set the cut off and give admission to the pupils they desire. For eg. I applied for my daughter for Nursery in Shri Ram , Vasant Vihar last year, she qualified on all the fixed criteria i.e. 1) First Born Girl Child - 10 , 2) Distance ( Dwarka ) - 10 ,3) Transfer Case - 05 4) Age ( 4+ ) - 15 ,Total - 40 , 5) Parents Interaction - ??(Variable ). In our specific case my daughter qualified all the fixed parameters i.e. area , first born girl child, transfer case , age etc and the variable factor was only the parent interaction and yet she could not get admission because they had 20 points for group discussion and which was later on changed to parents interaction which was not a big thing as every parent was just to talked on their child and the present education system and I am confident every parent performed well on that . Despite that, they did not inform about the criteria on which they gave points under that head. When I questioned about the break up of points and basis of allocation of points under the parent interaction criteria I got the mail below that they are at mercy of DoE..

Vasant Valley kept points for parents performance on which they played, I just wanted to ask one thing that when parents of a child are performing so well in their fields internationally ( I got a senior level job in UK govt despite recession only because of my knowledge and experience, my husband works at a senior level in a MNC and got this UK posting again because of his performance ) or anywhere in private sector despite global recession etc then how can a school judge parents recognition only in government sector / national awards ? Do I assume parents of all students of Vasant Valley are National Award winners only ? Does recognition in private sector jobs of parents has no contribution towards how well they perform and more important how does achievement of a parent have an impact on the education of the child ? Does it mean only children of renowned personalities have right to good education. We are simple middle class folks who have achieved success in life because of our own hardwork and performance and not because of any influence which still rules the education system in Delhi which is a very sad thing. After this experience in our motherland and desire to return back, we decided to stay in UK for another year because despite both of us performing high in our jobs and wanting to return to our home country we get treated like this. I don't know what will happen to us this year as now my younger daughter shall also be eligible for schooling year 2011 onwards.

Dear Ms. Sahay,

I have been requested by the Director Mr. Mark Parkinson to respond to your message on the Director’s blog.

Let me clarify that admissions at the entry level of any school in the capital are not governed by what we may stand or believe in. We are completely at the mercy of an admission process that is dictated by the Department of Education.
All queries and mails regarding entry level admissions (Pravesh Vatika) are addressed in the best possible way. We get over 1000 queries a day and you would appreciate that during term time it is impossible to respond to individual mails.

The Department of Education advises all schools to keep the process as transparent as possible which is why the break down of marks was on display at the school gate.

I want to ask that So may delhi schools are giving 20 marks for neighbourhood, 20-30 marks for sibling, 20-25 marks for transfer case, 5 marks for girl child, 5 for special need child and 5 marks for single parent then the parent lke us who dont come under sibling case, not girl child not transfer case will they get the admission only with 20 marks for neighbourhood.
What should we do????
very true question asked by chitra.....sumitji.....i was also worried abt the same....coz mine is a first child and male and we dont have any transfer case....like we have transfer my husband is in MNC and they can shift us to any part of the world bt that dont come under school guidelines coz that demand govt employees only....i think by having only 20 points that too of neighbourhood doesnt gve admission in any gud school.....nd one more thing have u gone under st.xavier's website....they r having last yr point system and they r giving 51 points to chirstian students......like 5 or 10 marks r understanable for a minority section but 51 points are too high and on their point system i score only 10 marks of neighbourhood.....
i think a govt should think over it....also....plz raise this point also....sumitji...
Also I want to know will there be no points for child's knowledge, language skills/motor/learnings that child has?? If not, then this is really strange as to why the hell then we send our kids to such highly paid Play Schools for 2 years. Please let me know will there be any added advantage in admission for any kind of skills that he/she may have ?
Nursery Admissions in Gurgaon schools are already over. This is also not right, Delhi/Gurgaon admissions dates should be same as the session 2011-12 dates will be same for both Delhi/Gurgaon schools. We wanted to keep some of the Gurgaon schools as an option for admission for our kid, but never knew gurgaon school dates are so early. They got over in August for Amity school and in Sep/Oct for other schools. This is not fair. We thought they will also start admissions in Oct/Nov as in Delhi.

For those based in South Delhi, for whom Gurgaon is an option, if you don't get the seats you're looking for in Delhi, we at Kunskapsskolan still have a small number of Nursery seats available. You would be very welcome to visit us.

kindly look into the matter for admission of sibling too. This is alos a messure problem these days that has come up because of point system.
Siblings points is also an irony to the fact that if after admitting our first child to a school we come to know that we are not happy with school due to one reason or another and want to get second child admitted in some other school we are handcuffed to do that also. Moreover admitting siblings in different schools make them learn and grow better(due to healthy competition that arises between siblings to perform and prove on'e school better). Different ways and methods from one school can be used at home for the other kid studying in some other school. So as per siblings points system all this should not be thought of
