“Our guidelines are ready and there are very few changes from last year but we are waiting for the high court to give its decision as there is no point releasing a set of guidelines only to change them later,” said a senior official.
An NGO had filed a case against the private schools in the city, saying that the points system they follow was against the Right to Education Act. Schools in the city, as of now, are allowed to frame their own set of points for giving admission in nursery. Most schools give points for alumni, sibling distance and girl child.
According to RTE, meanwhile, schools cannot discriminate against students at all.
According to Ashok Aggarwal, member of NGO Social Jurist that has challenged the points system in court, distance is the only criterion that schools can use to select children. Using any other criteria is violation of the RTE, believes Aggarwal.
Under the present circumstances the guidelines can be expected by the end of the week. The forms will be available from January 1 and the admission process has to be completed by March 31. There will be no centralised forms.
I am seeking admission for my daughter in a West Delhi school (in Nursery class). She has turned 3 yrs in October, 2012.
We stay in Tilak Nagar so I am considering schools in vicinity of 5 - 8 kms max. Though I am really keen on Schools like St Francis / Holy Child etc but would fill in forms of all good schools.
Some of my queries:
a) Do we still have point based criteria
b) Would we have centralised forms for all the schools
c) What is the expected date of forms of St Francis / Holy Child School
d) Please suggest name of some good schools that I must fill in to secure admission for my daughter.
e) We had an option of securing seat in Presidium Dwarka as she goes to Mothers Pride but this school is really far off from my place. Please suggest should I fill in the form or just leave that.
Essentially, you won't choose schools, schools will choose you. I spent a huge amount of time shortlisting schools, ultimately that came to naught and finally it was a matter of picking from the schools that I did get a call from. St Francis is a very sought after school so set your expectations accordingly:
Come to your queries
a) Yes but it will vary from school to school
b) No
c) As far as I know, it has not been announced but it is likely to be between Jan 1 and 15. Pls check their websites. I'm sure you will get updates here on the site as well.
d) If you ask me, fill in as many as you can. You may need to relax your criteria of "good". Prepare for worst case as well.
e) Distance is a BIG parameter. But as I said, no harm in filling up the form at least. But do not commit anything yet.
Thanks Jaspreet for your revert. Can you please share the name of the schools in West Delhi which are MUST for me to fill in.
Honestly, I'm not very familiar with the area to comment. So I'd leave it to someone else who can enlighten you.
I think a good starting point may be the school rankings HT put out for last year for west zone.
Hi sakshi
can you tell me about R.D. Rajpal dwarka,Bal bhawan International school sec-12 dwarka and Nirmal Bhartia dwarka.Which one is good to choose.
@ Nishit Garg
Apply in all these schools and later decide since no schools are best and no schools are worst as well. Consider schools where the schools admission criteria favours you.
Refer last year's excel sheet

Awesome response! If everyone goes by this, there will be very few sad souls post admissions.
My daughter is 5+ as on October 2012 and studying in KG. This year admission is seeking in First class in formal school.
I am residing in Subhash nagar and want to admit my daughter in school near by (max-3 to 5 kms).
