Govt turns up heat on schools flouting nursery guidelines

The Delhi government has sent notices to all schools that are not sticking to the nursery admission schedule set by the directorate of education. Some schools had announced conflicting dates for parents to buy and submit application forms. The directorate of education, however, had

issued a guideline, saying that all schools will have to sell and accept forms from January 1 to January 15.

“We have sent notices to schools, including St Francis, Janakpuri, Mt Saint Mary, Delhi Cantonment, and Loreto Convent School, Delhi Cantonment, asking them to explain why they are not following the guidelines. Mt Saint Mary and Loreto Convent School have replied, telling us that they will give out forms on all 15 days. We have not received an official response from St Francis,” said Amit Singla, the director of education.

There are more schools flouting government guidelines. The Apeejay School chain has not given points for the different categories in the general category but has created sub categories, an action that the directorate has said is not permissible.

“I have not been approached by the authorities regarding the validity of our admission guidelines but if we are erring, we will change the system,” said DK Bedi, principal, Apeejay School, Pitampura.

According to the guidelines, schools cannot give points on the basis of the parents’ profession, education and income. Several schools are violating these guidelines, too.

“As in the past, many schools are flouting RTE guidelines openly by giving points to professions/occupations of the parents and asking for their incomes. Some schools are giving points for intercity transfer. This makes no sense as points for distance are given on the basis of the address of residence which generally does not change in case of transfers within the city. One school has just declared the explanation of 70 points. It seems they will manipulate the rest according to their whims and fancies,” said Sumit Vohra, founder, admissionsnursery.com.

Singla, however, said that all complaints will be taken seriously and will be acted upon.

Not following timings is not in order on the part of schools. I have seen parents standing in queue from 0730 am onward in this bad weather.

You know i have been asked to be present at the counter from 8 am to 12 noon I am commuting from Ballabhgarh still principal insisted to distribute forms for EWS and attend queries on admission at the gate itelf. Once we can follow why not others.

Thanks for the same .But mother teresa public school preet vihar is not giving forms saying that the sale starting date will be from 9th jan to 15th jan 2013 . i hv enquired on telephone.Is it true

All schools should adhere to the strict admission schedule. File a complaint with DOE.

I went to Vidya Bharti Schol, sector 15, rohini for forms. the information i got from the guard as well as from the notice board that the office is closed till 6th Jan 13 and will reopen on 7th Jan. Hence you can collect the form from 7th onwards.

File a complaint against the school with DOE.

There are lot of schools in Rohini are asking for parents' highest degree copy attested as well as parent's occupation certificate. One school has even asked for PAN Card copy and that to attested.

Couple of them are Prestige Convent, Sec 8 rohini, St. Angel's Sector 15 Rohini, Gitarattan Jindal Public School Sec 7 Rohini,
