CLAIMING points for nursery admission doesn’t come cheap for the parents. Parents are required to submit affidavits to get points on parameters such as first child, girl child, and single child. However, notaries across the city are issuing these affidavits at exorbitant prices leaving a hole in parents’ pockets. They are spending thousands of rupees to get multiple copies of an affidavit made on a stamp paper that costs ` 10. “ Since all schools want original affidavits, I got 15 of them made from a notary at Moti Nagar market. It should have cost up to ` 30 per affidavit but I bought them at ` 80 each. The notary told me he was giving me a discount as I had ordered multiple affidavits,” Viraj Dave, a resident of Patel Nagar, said. He said he checked with notary services at Rajouri Garden, Azadpur and even Tis Hazari court premises. “ The prices have been hiked everywhere,” Dave said. When M AIL T ODAY called up a notary at Saket Court Complex to enquire about the cost, the ‘ advocate’ on the other side said he would make 15 copies of an affidavit within half an hour at ` 100- 150 each. “ You visit us tomorrow. We can see how much discount we can give you,” he said. |

To avoid this cost I purchased stamp papers from a government vendor at government price and take the prinout at home as per the format given by AN.com and get the same notarised at Rs. 20.

Affidavit is an essential to submit documents to prove for single, first or girl child. But it is painful to see how notaries play into the pocket of parents. Notories who are legal professionals should serve the people and act by virtue of office.

please cross check with schools as in almost 15 schools i have submitted photocopy of original affidavit with admission forms and i have got confirmation receipt.

But I think photocopy is not valid, might be M wrong but better for safer side you must check

Tanmayi is right. Even i have submitted photocopy of the affidavit in some schools. They specifically asked for photocopies only. original to be shown/submitted at the time of verification/ admission. I even reconfirmed with the staff collecting the forms.

Tanmayi , Then what is the validity of affidavit. I am not denying because last year also some parents confirmed.
Can you name some Reputed/Established school

But if schools at present are accepting such xerox copies then later schools are having a valid point to make a issue of the same.
Also schools are neither clear in the form that a particular affidavit is notarised by notary public or attested by an Oath Commissioner or attested by a first class Magisterate, they just want an evidence of first child or evidence of girl child.

Since Affidavit is a formal written statement or declaration of certain facts made voluntarily on oath and signed in the presence of someone legally authorized to administer an oath, such as a notary public or judges in the court, it is intended to be used as a proof in the courts or submitted in original with the concerned authorities.
So it is to be understood it should be notarised by Notary Public if schools don't specify.

i also submitted in all schools the photocopy of affidavit and everyone accepted and i even asked at time of submitting. tagore , banyan tree, frank anthony , amrita, BVN and all of them. i only got one affidavit made which is with me.

All of you have to give original in case of selection .
