No nursery admissions in private Delhi schools till final verdict, orders court

Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered private schools in Delhi to not allow nursery admissions till it gives a final verdict on the validity of government's 2010 notification and whether it follows the Right to Education Act. "Schools cannot formulate their own admission policies," the court further ordered.

The notification allows schools in Delhi to formulate their own guidelines and preferences based on religion, sibling and alumni to admit children in nursery. The court had earlier said the Centre and the Delhi government cannot "dilute" RTE Act by allowing unaided private schools to use their own criteria for nursery admissions.

The court had also said the ongoing nursery admission process in Delhi would be cancelled if it decides to "quash" the notification issued on December 15, 2010 by the Directorate of Education (DoE) on behalf of Delhi government.

@ Aditi

If the root cause problems underlying in the Orders by State Govt. and Union Govt. are cleared out definitely an amicable solution can be reached out for a transparent admission process.

Now a bunch of parents who have already deposited fees in schools amd whose wards have already been selected on the basis of sibling, alumni points etc. Have rushed to High Court praying for impleading them as a party (HEARING THEM) before finally deciding the issue in question. I'm sure this would further delay the outcome of verdict, which is supposed to come today at 3:30 pm

Yes Sharad

Meanwhile, parents whose wards are due to be admitted in nursery and prominent private schools which are likely to be affected by the court's decision approached the court the same day, urging they be heard so that their concerns are also taken into account. The association of parents, through their counsel, informed the court that they have already applied in some schools and the admission process has begun for the academic year that starts in April.
Similarly schools prayed the court allow them a hearing and permit them to become a party in the case.

What to do now? Confused!!

I guess nothing much can be done except waiting for the court's verdict at 3.30PM today...hope all confusions get cleared with the verdict and we parents stand a fair chance in getting our children in good school.

Everything is fine but the fact remains the same as to how parents will know what the schools are upto....even if the screening is done again who is sure about it and how is it possible to cancel the nursery admissions if school are not binding by the guidelines of government. The only lose will be borne by parents and more by the children and who knows when the High Court will get active again and issue a notification regarding this and are we still sure that we will get justification. I have filled up forms in around 15 schools wherein we have not got any points for the schools who are in the limit of 3-4kms also as they have distributed their points block wise....I just hope that everything goes by time and the admission process continues with all practicality as it is the matter for child welfare..

hon'ble move but very poor timing , whatever is being done now could have been done earlier , now after all leaves being exausted for depositing forms and verification of documents , i doubt if our workplaces will be so accommodating the second time round .its not just the schools , parents are also to blame coz , we run after the same few schools. If u consider total no of seats available , its more than the no of children needing admission be we don't consider these schools , how can 10 odd schools take all the kids

WHAT SO EVER BE DECIDED THE ULTIMATE THING IS WHO WILL BE SUFFERING THROUGH ALL DIS IS THE PARENTS AND NOT THE SCHOOLS,N IF THE PROCESS IS SCRAPPED SO B READY FOR MORE SUFERINGS I WONDER DO V AGAIN HVE 2GO N COLLECT  FORMS N STAND IN LONG QUE'S FOR SUBMISSIONS.......IF THEY WANTED TO HELP US Y NOT IT HAD BEEN DONE BEFORE STARTING THIS WHOLE PROCESS,,EVERY1 IS JUST HARRASING PARENTS NOTHING ELSE WHETHER ITS SCHOOL OR DOE OR GOVRNMENT N NOW JUDICAL SYSTEM OF INDIA

My ward had cleared the first list . I called up the school n to my surprise they hv scrapped the list n hv asked me to call at around 12. The future remains uncertain. M confused.

Thats really good news for the parents.

I just want to know can the age criteria for the nursery admission (Child born between 01-April-2009 to 31-March-2010) will prevail or not? If not then what should the parents of children above 4 years who could not deposit the form due to the age criteria followed by almost all of  the school?

I respect HC's concern on the chaos created in nursery admission process. but my question is WHY NOW? Why didnt you wake up earlier, HC and the ones who filed the PIL? WHY did you wait till nth hour for this? This should have happened in Nov-Dec 2012, much before the admission process started.  What right do you have to put the parents through the mess all over again and give them more sleepless nights and restless days waiting for a verdict?

Why now, why the one who filed the PIL, 4 me my full respect to one who filled d PIL its never 2 late..... one month or two month delay is nothing when u talking about 12 years of your child future.
