Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered private schools in Delhi to not allow nursery admissions till it gives a final verdict on the validity of government's 2010 notification and whether it follows the Right to Education Act. "Schools cannot formulate their own admission policies," the court further ordered.
The notification allows schools in Delhi to formulate their own guidelines and preferences based on religion, sibling and alumni to admit children in nursery. The court had earlier said the Centre and the Delhi government cannot "dilute" RTE Act by allowing unaided private schools to use their own criteria for nursery admissions.
The court had also said the ongoing nursery admission process in Delhi would be cancelled if it decides to "quash" the notification issued on December 15, 2010 by the Directorate of Education (DoE) on behalf of Delhi government.

With alumni / sibling points criteria (which is against RTE) in place, most of children will not get a chance to participate in draw of lots.
RTE will ensure that such children get oppertunity to be included in draw of lots, provided they meet neighbourhood criteria.
Also brand value of schools will loose sheen as now everyone gets a chance to join so called top schools & selection is not based on PAISA !!!
Presently if your kid is not in so called Top Schools means that you can not afford it, but after RTE it will be like you can afford it but did not get thru in lottery.
This will ease a lot of peer/society pressure of showing off, off the parents shoulder.
Majority will agree that so called Top Schools provide no better education than some govt schools. They may provide facilities (read AC classrooms etc).
I do not see how in the current system paisa facilitates admission... the least the system is doing now better than any other city, it to make the process transparent .. though may be not perfect. Paisa speaks and will continue to speak in the Management quota... which is as high as 50% in some schools... this is in any case out of the purview of the current court case... which does not intend to disturb the management quota or the EWS seats.
So however much you may want the rich and powerful will still be seen in the top schools of Delhi, they were not and will not be effected by the point system in Delhi.
The contention here is regarding Selling of General Seats.
Alumni = income data with schools so they prefer such kids.
Sibling = Elder kid already admitted thru sibling quota so income data with school.
Transfer Case = Pay donation, schools accepts any junk document as transfer proof & you get admission.
And I dont think that management quota is out of purview of the present petition, Have you gone thru the petition ?
Management Quota if i am not mistaken is a product of Delhi Govt Guideline which is sought to be quashed.
Even if managment quota continues as before, at least general seats will be available without any donation.
So General, EWS will be new categories along with maybe Management Quota if schools fight tooth & nail.
The problem arises when school messes up with General seats for their unaccounted profit.
Talking of rich : rich (read: discriminating) parents are opting for schools outside Delhi to avoid thier kids interacting with ews children.
Why NCR schools are interviewing parents / kids when RTE applies pan India ?
And the rich and powerful are few and far between in our country. So don't bother about them. In fact, schools should sell management seats to only the rich and powerful at exorbitant prices. And the middle class should be left alone.
i am completely agree with you.. samething happened with me...there is only 25 points for distance. and sibling and alumni point is more than 30.. how can we get admission of our child in DPS..
SOMEONE SAID: "I went to DPS RK Puram after class 10th and got used to the culture of smoking, drinking, bunking and started getting opportunities with girls and got influenced by the coolness of the place."
Do you still want to send your child to DPS !!!
I hope the court does "quash" the Delhi government notification; and give equal and just opportunities to all the little children. This will also deter corruption in nursery admissions. This will also protect the children, who become corrupt at age 3 years due to money being paid and taken during admissions.
Hope so, let see...
If not for this year, certainly for coming years...
Only Just...
Practical move by the Hon'ble HC.
