I will share what I experienced last year during the admission process for my child.

We had applied in both of them-Step by Step/Magic Years. Both have online form filling process.

In step by step, you will only receive a call/email from them in case you're selected, and they will invite you to visit the facility/school/meet the principal and for general interaction.

In Magic years, after the form filling process is over, they generally call all parents to see the facility and interact with teachers, irrespective of whether you're selected or not. In case you're selected in magic years then you will receive a letter from them nearly after 2-3 weeks asking you to deposit the fees.

My son got through magic years and was not selected for Step by Step.

Also, my personal experience was better in Magic Years then Step by Step. We found Magic Years better in following respects:- Excellent security, Lot of sports activities for kids, Strong focus on English and communication skills, experienced teachers/staff ( a lot of these play schools have young teachers who are inexperienced themselves).

I did not get satisfactory reviews from parents for Step by Step. Most of them complained that the staff is cold, rude and has lot of attitude (we're the best types). I experienced the same myself, when I called to inquire about the admission process, the lady was rude and said, "if you're in the list you will be called" and hung up.

The crowd in Step by Step is pretty awesome, almost all of them belong to elite super rich class. Step by Step only wants industrialist/super rich class parents. They only look at position & address. If you belong to A class locations like Vasant Vihar, GK etc, then your selection is guaranteed otherwise not. In-fact most of these type of schools look at top class localities only (lets face it, hard truth)

Last year, I read in some C-fore survey that Magic Years was rated No1 play school in Delhi. My son got thru in Magic Years. Later on my wife was not comfortable, the teacher during the school visit said that your child should be potty trained. How can you expect a 2.5 years old child to be potty trained?? Besides both these schools had 25-30 plus students in one class which we were not comfortable with.

Ultimately, we realized that some of these schools are status symbols. Me and my wife are not in business of showing off. A good school is where a child should get quality education.

For play school our criteria was that the child should be happy, get proper attention and the environment should be pressure free with a little bit of fun learning, that's all! He has his entire life to learn when he starts going to proper school from nursery onwards.

Therefore we finally chose Navakriti (now Auro School- belongs to Aurobindo Society who also run Mother's International). We liked this school for following reasons: Huge park, 1.25 acres of open space, strong teachers: students ratio 1:6, a lot of personal attention, lots of outdoor activities, pressure free environment, lots of song and dance routine, they treat children like angels, no faltu ka style, nothing more than: just fun.

If you're looking for some serious study n learning and more grasp on english/communication skills during play school years (with some style too) then you could look at Magic Years. If you're looking for fun, pressure free environment and lots of play time then you could look at  Navakriti. Navakriti does not have any serious studies during play school just loads of playtime.

I can't comment much on the teaching methods of Step by Step.

Ultimately good school should be about imparting quality education and not a status symbol!

Thanks for the v detailed reply ...

Rachna, If you get selected in both go for Magic years.

I have got a letter from magic yrs and they have asked me and my husband to visit the school after a week for a meeting. They have also sent a form which asks info about the history of the child, which they hv asked to return immediately along with proof of residence. But no where it seems specified whether the child has been offered admission or not, can anyone let me know what exactly will be the process??

When did you get the letter and by which mode by courier or register post...where do you stay..do you have sibling case?

Today only and by registered post ... I dont hv a sibling case and I stay in Munirka.

SEE only selected parents are sent letter, no interview. Congrats i think you are selected in best pre school of Delhi :)
