Nursery admissions in Delhi will not begin on January 15 as some private schools on Monday moved the Delhi high court against the new guidelines, terming them illegal and arbitrary.
Some unaided private schools challenged a single-judge bench order that had on January 10 refused to stay the government notification setting down criteria for admissions.
The new norms were issued by lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung last month. Unaided private schools are those who do not get government grant.
The city has around 1.25 lakh nursery seats as against almost 1.50 lakh applicants. The top 50 schools get most applications even as seats remain vacant in the remaining 1,000 schools.
While it refused to stay the new guidelines, a division bench of justice Pradeep Nandrajog and justice Jayant Nath indicated that certain admission guidelines needed a "re-look".
“This (petition) needs detailed hearing. We are simply deferring the hearing without any order," the bench said. The Delhi government assured the court that it would not commence the admission process on January 15 and wait for its order.AS ADMISSIONS WONT START FROM 15JAN ,WILL DEPEND ON JUDGEMENT OF COURTS ON 15 JAN.

4.45 pm: Delhi HC says LG's guidelines for nursery admission won't be applicable until next hearing on January 15, no stay on the process
This is really unexpected......
Really Very Very Disgusting, they can't understand the condition of parents through which we all are going through.............
shikha, this is the problem for serving class, will the govt. understand this problem? why are activist who fought for this battle could not think of just issues like this.
what a waste of effort and time!!
No doubt the system is becoming pathetic.. I think d prior system would have been better.. If a parent is concerned about d distance part, he will automatically put his child in a nearby school.. Rather introducing such a system has added more headache.. D school education may be an important issue, but putting one's child in one of d best school is all about parents' prestige and ego satisfaction specifically after Ganguli Committee....Those who can pay money can do away easily with admission.. I think at d end of day atmosphere at home and a decent school but with a disciplined environment and values can make difference to a kid's personality.. And irony is dis system is only there in Delhi and d rest of the country goes as per d previous norms..Why is that education system being mocked in Delhi? If kids from other cities can travel far for their schooling and are being interviewed, Why Delhi's kids cant?
Ashu Understand your pain and agony, I agree that the delay would add to the confusion and that the HC should have take due care of the problems that the parents would have to face because of this decision. I would be facing same issues.
However here is rebuttal to some of your points
1 Isn't it only fair to stop the mindless travel that the kids are forced to do in order to travel to school's, which might be as far as 15 KM in some cases.
2 Interview of Kids: Don't you think its unfair to be judgmental on the abilities of a three years old.
