NEW DELHI: Transfer points in nursery admissions have become the main point of contention this year and as per the data posted on schools’ websites, rightly so.
On analysing the names of students selected for lottery or for the final list, it has been revealed that in some schools close to 90% of the children who have made it are transfer cases while in others the numbers is between 25% and 30%.
As per DPS Dwarka’s website, of the 130 seats in the general category, 116 were to be filled by children who were eligible for transfer points. That makes for about 90% of the seats.
In schools such as Heritage School, Vasant Kunj, this number is around 70%. In Ahlcon International School, the figure was 31%.
Under the new guidelines, parents who have proof of having been transferred to the city are eligible for 5 inter-state transfer points. These points have become contentious this year with the number of applications under this category having increased exponentially as compared to the previous years. In a number of cases, these points are being availed by parents who are working in the NCR and have produced transfer certificates.
Till last year, schools saw only a couple of cases of transfer and were asked to accommodate such students on a priority.
“I don’t understand why we have transfer points in the first place. These should apply midsession and not at the beginning when every parent is at an equal footing,” said an infuriated parent who did not wish to be named.
The Directorate of Education has issued a directive, asking all schools to check all transfer documents thoroughly and to maintain proper documents. No cap on the number of admissions has, however, been announced.
“Transfer points are totally unjustified. They allow a child to secure a seat in a number of schools and have 20 times the probability of blocking a seat in all school within the 8-km radius. This has barred Delhi children with 70 points from a fair chance at admission,” said Sumit Vohra of admissionnursery.com, a portal for parents.
He, along with other, parents collated the data for 12 schools.

Seems Delhi is not for Delhi citizens. People who are born and brought up in Delhi, now there kids will not be getting admission to any school.
As by giving priority to those who has been transfered to Delhi the whole system fails to deliver the right to education to delhi citizen.
Giving some benefits to those who get transfered during the session from one state to another can be a good initiatives that means within the session if movement happens then if school can catter any child in there school, can be understood.
The total scenario seems unfair and LG, DOE shall take necessary action in time while removing the 5 points for transfer and give everyone who lives in the same locality the equal right to education.
Otherwise, the only option for the delhi parents is to say to their small kids that Delhi Govt. does not want you to be an educated cititzen.
we may not understand the plight of the problems faced by the person coming to delhi on transfer from far off states.
these points are for 1 year only. yes ,the documents should be verified properly and it should also be back checked.
In the age of information technology everyone is strategically at same spot either being from bangalore or delhi. Everyone living in delhi does not go walking all the roads to find schools. People coming from outside are also given 70 points on the basis of residence. What is plight for people coming to delhi for nursery admission i cannot understand. Can you estimate what the horror going on for the people spent all their life in delhi?
Please highlight your plight and you will find similar plight for people living in delhi. The only plight understandable in transfer case is when they are transferred in middle of school session. Please be generous while thinking.
Mere Checking of doc is just a wastage of time it is not going to be beneficial in either way. First of all transfer point system should be abolished. Why giving transfer points in NCR?
By looking at higher number of transfer cases it just gives a firm understanding that these are all fake.
Yes abolishing this 5 transfer point is the only solution. No more time to think..they must abolish that instantly from effect.
Transfer Points as per my understanding is for someone who is moving in the middle of an academic year.
Why points or even quota for that matter at the start of an academic year? It means that one is much part of Delhi as everybody else is and hence there should not be a "Quota" for inter state transfers in the beginning of the year itself.
Has anyone done the math for number of parents working in NCR Region who would misuse this system?
Like some other parents, my kid was not eligible last year since he was 3 months less than 3 years, next year he will not be eligible since he will be more than 4, how disgusting can our education system be?
I am speechless!
I don't understand the logic behind the transfer points.
People who have been transferred from outside Delhi should not be given preference in the beginning of the session.
There is not point give extra points to transfer cases.
Had the person been transferred in between the session then that person should have been given preference.
The transfer points should be abolished.
Thanks team, for working on Pain Area.
Anytime Vikram :)
