Nursery admissions: Transfer points a headache for parents

NEW DELHI: Transfer points in nursery admissions have become the main point of contention this year and as per the data posted on schools’ websites, rightly so.

On analysing the names of students selected for lottery or for the final list, it has been revealed that in some schools close to 90% of the children who have made it are transfer cases while in others the numbers is between 25% and 30%.

As per DPS Dwarka’s website, of the 130 seats in the general category, 116 were to be filled by children who were eligible for transfer points. That makes for about 90% of the seats.

In schools such as Heritage School, Vasant Kunj, this number is around 70%. In Ahlcon International School, the figure was 31%.

Under the new guidelines, parents who have proof of having been transferred to the city are eligible for 5 inter-state transfer points. These points have become contentious this year with the number of applications under this category having increased exponentially as compared to the previous years. In a number of cases, these points are being availed by parents who are working in the NCR and have produced transfer certificates.

Till last year, schools saw only a couple of cases of transfer and were asked to accommodate such students on a priority.

“I don’t understand why we have transfer points in the first place. These should apply midsession and not at the beginning when every parent is at an equal footing,” said an infuriated parent who did not wish to be named.

The Directorate of Education has issued a directive, asking all schools to check all transfer documents thoroughly and to maintain proper documents. No cap on the number of admissions has, however, been announced.

“Transfer points are totally unjustified. They allow a child to secure a seat in a number of schools and have 20 times the probability of blocking a seat in all school within the 8-km radius. This has barred Delhi children with 70 points from a fair chance at admission,” said Sumit Vohra of admissionnursery.com, a portal for parents.

He, along with other, parents collated the data for 12 schools.

No resolution in sight . 70 points and no luck ..Where do we go ? Another state ?

Seems like that..we have to quit our job to get nursery admission for our kid at another city as next year these kids will be barred from applying. 28 is approaching and nothing solid done to curb the fake transfer menace.

I am glad that you are taking up this matter.  Parents are already reeling under plethora of reservations. N this comes as an add-on pain. Are people from outside Delhi more eligible for Schools in Delhi? Where do the Delhites go for fetching a seat to their child? To some other state??

Our Hon'ble LG is from an academic background. Never thought that he will issue such STUPID guidelines without putting any thought into it.

From the time of commencement of Nursery admissions, I fail to understand the wrong my son did by being born as male.. Government speaks of eradicating all kind of disparities, but then why shud it start one by initiating reservations for girls..

Dear  Mr Vohr

Meanwhile why we cant approaches to school for stop taking admission on guidlines of DOE AGAINST INTERTRANSFER CASE .

How Delhi Schools are agreed to take complete admission based on inter tranfer case . why they are not challenging guidelines.

Delhi schools benefits of their state people and delhi children are not part of this so whats use of them.

 Gaurav

Only LG or Court can .

How many of us have gone to LG web site and registered our complain. Number matters.
Dear Mr. Sumit,
I'm glad that you are fighting for the Transfer points. Please initiate something for the wards who are residing just adjacent to good schools but have no chance of getting admitted because he also have 70 points along with other wards who are residing with in 8 km radius. It should be like this that schools give priority to wards who are residing nearer to school.

Mr.Sumit Vohra has already tried his level best and hoping optimistically towards LG's therapeutic work regarding discriminatory inter-state transfer points.
