Classrooms empty but schools are paying teachers, maintaining infrastructure

Their children may not have started school yet but parents of tiny tots are having to worry about their school fee already.
SONU MEHTA/HT FILE PHOTO Schools in Delhi will soon close for the annual summer break in the second week of May. Children will be able to start classes only in July.

The children may start nursery classes in the coming week, or what seems more likely, after the summer vacations, but parents will have to pay the fee for the entire quarter.

And it is not the fault of the schools either. While children usually start school in the first week of April, the long-drawn litigation has meant that classrooms have remained empty so far. The schools, however, have not stopped paying their teachers or eliminated the infrastructure that comes along with running the classrooms.

After Monday’s deferral, the final decision on the nursery admission process is expected on Wednesday. It is only after that that schools will start the second draw of lots to fill up the vacant seats. While a few schools have started classes already, a large number of seats still remain vacant.

The second phase of the admission process is likely to start by the end of this week or early next week. Schools usually close for summer break in the second week of May. The children, therefore, are expected to start school only in July now.

“This is a very peculiar situation where we will have to pay the fee even when our children have not started school. My daughter is still in play school and if the school demands the entire fee, I will have to pay double,” said Amit Yadav, a resident of Rohini.

According to the directorate of education, they have not yet decided on a road map for the fee.

“We are focussing on getting the admission process started as of now. Even when we discuss the issue of fee, we have to recognize that schools are still paying the teachers and are managing the infrastructure. We will have to think about the issue after proper consultation,” said Padmini Singla, director, education.

Amit
here we are talking of DOE Director statement .
HC never asked to start the session before 16 Apr verdict on IST and 7O pointers . It was DOE .

Amit bhai cool..... i think No one is bothering about fee..... rather everyone is concerned about the beginning of school.....

And plez sir... ask yourself who commodify the education????

Parents ot these so called schools

Thats what I am saying mahesh ji. ye koi unday bread to hain nahi ki paise tabhi denge jab dukandaar hamay saman de dega.

@ manjari luthra

Good and actually relevant query. Waiting for concrete reply ..

@ manjari padmini madam will ensure you pay fess for the entire year even if you are lucky enough to get a seat in august. Instead of soothing parents who got into this problem due to her team's policy she is giving ideas.

See practically speaking, schools can very easily justify taking apr-june fees. We should pray for some conssessions at least.
I have paid the school fee where my son got admission . But the classes are not started yet. They just put the notice on their site that nursery classes has been deferred till next SC notification. Though i was also paying in the playing school which i have continued.

Regarding fee issue, most of the parents will oppose me. But I just want to know takes from those who are employees of any organization. We have seen number of times that schools are closed for various reasons by the government. Sometimes it is for extreme hot or extreme cold. Sometimes for natural calamities, sometimes for political or religious issues.

Are the salaries of regular employees deducted for such period? Are the salaries of regular teachers cut for these issues? Inspite of so much anger for private schools, we are anxiously waiting for our ward's admission in these schools only. What a strange thing. Plz comment.

Maharamji
Dont you think DOE statement was uncalled for today . she cud also have highlight parents plight also.

Or Given her take when the dispute had come after the verdict .

@sakshi maam.... we also want a school representative here on an.com. and we got it... right!!!!

And one more thing we all parents want that admission procesa must be over and classes Must start ASAP.

@ Maharam ji

Valid facts.
Moreover school is suppose to be a non profit organisation (at least on papers), therefore they r not earning profits from the receivable fees, so now they can fully charge parents for the incurred expenses. Friends they'll be technically correct in doing so.
