Classrooms empty but schools are paying teachers, maintaining infrastructure

Their children may not have started school yet but parents of tiny tots are having to worry about their school fee already.
SONU MEHTA/HT FILE PHOTO Schools in Delhi will soon close for the annual summer break in the second week of May. Children will be able to start classes only in July.

The children may start nursery classes in the coming week, or what seems more likely, after the summer vacations, but parents will have to pay the fee for the entire quarter.

And it is not the fault of the schools either. While children usually start school in the first week of April, the long-drawn litigation has meant that classrooms have remained empty so far. The schools, however, have not stopped paying their teachers or eliminated the infrastructure that comes along with running the classrooms.

After Monday’s deferral, the final decision on the nursery admission process is expected on Wednesday. It is only after that that schools will start the second draw of lots to fill up the vacant seats. While a few schools have started classes already, a large number of seats still remain vacant.

The second phase of the admission process is likely to start by the end of this week or early next week. Schools usually close for summer break in the second week of May. The children, therefore, are expected to start school only in July now.

“This is a very peculiar situation where we will have to pay the fee even when our children have not started school. My daughter is still in play school and if the school demands the entire fee, I will have to pay double,” said Amit Yadav, a resident of Rohini.

According to the directorate of education, they have not yet decided on a road map for the fee.

“We are focussing on getting the admission process started as of now. Even when we discuss the issue of fee, we have to recognize that schools are still paying the teachers and are managing the infrastructure. We will have to think about the issue after proper consultation,” said Padmini Singla, director, education.

What!

Schools are maintaining infrastructure only for Nursery (which is not started). Delay by department and suffering for children and parents.

@ritu maam... even i find it strange.... and one more thing .... the schools seems to be so poor that they are paying teacher's salary by collecting money from nursery kid's parents only

It seems to be cynical but i want to raise one more point that schools have collected Millions of ₹ from parents and are earning very high amount of interest on  amount....

Conclusion : from every thing happened so far only gainer are schools and only loosers are parents

Director of Education has failed to address the needs of their main clients the Students and their parents. How come a student who has not yet utilized any of the facilities provided by the school accountable for expenditure incurred towards teachers salary and infrastructure? A highly responsible person should be highly responsible for students and parents needs too and act swiftly and refund (if withdrawn) or adjust the quarter fee already paid to the next term prior to the first day of the classes to be scheduled after court verdict.

Lathaa maam school lobby is so strong that virtually they control the every decision of DOE. Every circular and guidelines come up according to the need and wish of pvt schools.

And thats why as you rightly said the DOE is failed to address the needs of main clients - the students and their parents...

I totally concur with you and I wish, if we can do something about it.

At the end of the day, it has been a win-win situation for schools. The intent behind this entire activity was to make our admission process corruption-free and transparent.

Whereas, this has completely worked in school's favor and they are minting money as last minute admissions.

These shops will run like this only-looting the parents, if the people sitting in responsible posts to serve us, are not serving us, then its time for demanding their resignation-why are they still holding that position-to join hands with schools in loot??? lets ask for DoE's resignation due to this session's mess created by them!!!

Samar maam... legit... very right words..... thanx for sharing such views

Rightly said Dr.Samar.

If steps are not taken to prevent Corruption in education sector the future of India may not be bright as imagined right now. Corruption may swallow all democratic laws and regulations which are in paper form.

So what do you suggest latha mam, what should be our next move...to let DoE make such pro-school statement or ask them to shut up once and for all?? is it not the right time for DoE to resign??? sakshi mam, if possible write a letter countersigned by the AN.COM parents asking for their resignation on behalf of such non-parents-friendly statements and the mess of this session!!
sorry typo Lathaa mam, in your name spelling!
@ Maharam Tanwar ji

Did you also apply for nursery admission for your child in this session and deposit first quarter fee?
