Classrooms empty but schools are paying teachers, maintaining infrastructure

Their children may not have started school yet but parents of tiny tots are having to worry about their school fee already.
SONU MEHTA/HT FILE PHOTO Schools in Delhi will soon close for the annual summer break in the second week of May. Children will be able to start classes only in July.

The children may start nursery classes in the coming week, or what seems more likely, after the summer vacations, but parents will have to pay the fee for the entire quarter.

And it is not the fault of the schools either. While children usually start school in the first week of April, the long-drawn litigation has meant that classrooms have remained empty so far. The schools, however, have not stopped paying their teachers or eliminated the infrastructure that comes along with running the classrooms.

After Monday’s deferral, the final decision on the nursery admission process is expected on Wednesday. It is only after that that schools will start the second draw of lots to fill up the vacant seats. While a few schools have started classes already, a large number of seats still remain vacant.

The second phase of the admission process is likely to start by the end of this week or early next week. Schools usually close for summer break in the second week of May. The children, therefore, are expected to start school only in July now.

“This is a very peculiar situation where we will have to pay the fee even when our children have not started school. My daughter is still in play school and if the school demands the entire fee, I will have to pay double,” said Amit Yadav, a resident of Rohini.

According to the directorate of education, they have not yet decided on a road map for the fee.

“We are focussing on getting the admission process started as of now. Even when we discuss the issue of fee, we have to recognize that schools are still paying the teachers and are managing the infrastructure. We will have to think about the issue after proper consultation,” said Padmini Singla, director, education.

What are you writing bro.... read it carefully....

Your problem is that without understanding the things you just start writing which goes against teachers and parents .... what a sorry state of mind.....

Hope you will not mind and try to understand the satire

ye to me pehle hi keh chuka hoon, it is one's own perception about any comment. I took it this way as per my knowledge and understanding. Mahesh, This is what our mindset. We need to change knowing the reality. We can try to change and we must try. In the beginning only, I said about my criticism, so I am not wondering. I asked parents to reply my one question :- how will an employee feel if his salary is cut for want of natural calamities leading to closure of the company/school for 10-20 days? Perhaps very bad? and he will fight against the cut. So is the case with schools.

sir every one is free to think....

and i want to say that schools have enough funds... they and pay and run school easily its a lame excuse and cry foul that how they(schools) will pay for teachers salary and for infrastructure of school. sochools don't operate only on fee they receive from 100 to 200 students...

i want to STRESS on the point again the problem is not of fee refund rather its the delay in starting of session and not about fee refund....plez try to understand...

Mahesh why don't you speak the reality of schools regarding charges for summer vacations. Once they charge for summer vacations, does it mean that salary should not be paid to teachers because they are not involved in practical teaching for this period and also bus charges are illegal. You never speak about such thing. You never emphasized on starting the session being a teacher. Who knows better than you regarding these two issues and justification for salary being paid to teachers.

One should not gneralize comments... Why Maheshji thinks that all Teachers and schools do not care.... Is it a forum for bashing schools for whatever they do and even for things they don't...
I agree there are black sheeps but they are few... They can be Schools, staff and even parents...
Therefore I request everyone to think logically before they write...

monika maam.. plez be cool... this is a forum for parents ok..... we have to bring out the ill deeds of schools and discuss about admission, school education, syllabus and everything of concern about kids in schools....

i want to clarify few things here...

1. i am a teacher my self then how can i say "that all Teachers and schools do not care...."

2.i want to stress one thing that - school has two sides one is management which want more and more money because they are run by property dealers, big business houses like amity, birlasm goenkas etc,,, and other side is the "real school"  where there are teachers and students. believe me i know teachers who say 'they don't know how the admission process is carried out in my school'. so when ever i see a school i see the teaching faculty and not the management.

3. i don't want to generalize plez..... there may be some very very good schools... but they are very few. most of them ask for donation or capitation money in one form or the other.

4. and once more i want to clarify that i am not bashing the schools.. my criticism is for school management only.....

hope you will understand....

Lets take an example of a school XYZ
with 7 nursery sections with 20 kids per section with one teacher and one attendent.
Now the fee for d month lets take it as 4000/kid & teachers salary 30000/month & attendent salary 8000/month, other facilities are shared by all the other classes in d school therefore cannot b quantified, but salary of teacher & attendents is exclusive to each class.
now calculation is as follows
20×7×4000=560000
1×7×30000=210000
1×7×8000=56000

560000-(210000+56000)=294000

This is surplus fund for school for 1 month after paying salary to nursery teachers & attendents this can be adjusted among all the kids.
294000÷(7×20)=2100

(no addition is needed for electrity, water, transport & other consumables as classes have not started & hence these are not consumed.)

On the other hand, one suggestion is, parents can have a large heart & contribute this amount to development of facilities in school, after all their kid will spend 14 years of his schooling in that school so it may b an investment for d development of his school.

THIS IS JUST A SIMPLE CALCULATION, (LAYMAN STYLE) FACTS MAY BE DIFFRENT, I AM NOT BATTING FOR ANY CAMP HERE(NEITHER FOR FEE ADJUSTMENT TO PARENTS NOR FOR FEE PROVIDED TO SCHOOL FOR APRIL) THIS CALCULATION IS SUBJECT TO ERRORS & CAN B INTERPRETED ACCORDING TO ONES PERCEPTION.

@mark william sir, its an approximate amount and more or less this is near to the real amount.

hats off to you...

this is per month surplus fund.... and still people argue that how schools will pay to teachers

and one more thing "HOW MANY SCHOOLS PAY GOOD SALARIES TO THERE TEACHERS IS A BIG QUESTION?????"

As a parent, we all care for our kid's education and I understand that our primary concern is commencement of session.

But at the same time, I would not want my hard-earned money to go waste so schools should at least refund or adjust April's fee in the next quarter. Period!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Mahesh, Mark, Risha and Dr Samar for supporting the right thing.

Thanx to you sunny as well... only those who are suffering can understand the real problem....

Mahesh aapke paas bhi jawab he to deejiye please to help thousands of parents for refund of fee and bus charges during the situations mentioned by me. It is a general issue. Do you thing charging of bus fee for 2 months summer vacation is justified by the schools? my answer is no. but still schools charge? Do you agree or disagree and same goes for 2 months fee for which neither the student has attended the school not the teachers have taught them and still you ask the student fee in advance. Reason out please as you are the TEACHER and hardly any other parent on this forum who can better comment than you.

Sunny, issue aur bhi bahut hein jinhe uthaya ja sakta he. Sab kehte hein education used to be a noble profession but these days it has become a business. similarly hospitals. I need not to be told about hard earned money. I have started earning this hard 40 years ago. Parents attitude can be seen at school gates of many schools in Delhi in terms of hard earned money. Gifts are exchanged for hard earned money with the teachers. Parents are seen and discussing complaining about each other in PTMs for various issues hinting hard earned money.

Now I am supporting the schools because of non-realistic approaches of parents on this fee issue.  Aapki jeb se jaye to galat he, kisi aur ki jeb se jaye to mujhe kya fark padta he.,
