Hindustan Times 23 Dec - Nursery admission: Schools break norms “Screening parents is against the Ganguly committee guidelines but schools are blatantly violating it. Schools had vouched for self regulation but no-one is practicing it. Authority needs to intervene and bring some relief for the parents,” said Sumit Vohra of admissionnursery.com.
NEW DELHI: A few schools in the city seem to have set arbitrary criteria for nursery admissions for the coming academic year. Parents’ habits and occupation are being considered at the time of admission.

Schools are looking into whether the parents are nonsmokers, teetotallers, vegetarians, military, NCC cadets, national or state award winners. This is against government regulations prohibiting screening of parents.
Mahavir Senior Model School at Sangam Park Extension is giving 5 points each for parents who are vegetarian, nonsmokers and teetotaller.
“There will be no undertaking or anything of that sort (while allotting points), parents will have to come and tell us. We should learn to trust in such matter,” S.L.Jain, principal of the school said.
St.Stephen’s School, Pitampura has allotted 10 points for children of NCC cadets, scouts and guides. Darbari Lal DAV Model School, Pitampura has allotted 10 points for children of defence martyrs and armed forces.
Similarly, G.D Salwan Public School gives 10 points for parents who have made contribution towards any national cause or community development programme. Further, the same school is giving 20 points for parents who are national, state award winners and those holding achievement in field of academics, sports and co-curricular activities.
“Such criteria does not make sense at all. There is an urgent need for the government to look into this. Those belonging to the general category are going to suffer the most,” said Kritika Anand, a parent.
Decent Public School, Rohini is allegedly making parents sign an undertaking that says they cannot ask for refund in case of withdrawal.
