re out in Gurgaon schools, parents are making a beeline to the administrative offices of various schools. Most schools in the city have adopted the 'first come first served' policy as far as admissions are concerned. Although schools have started selling forms a week before the date of registration, parents complained that forms were declared out of stock in some of the schools on the first day. According to the sources in Heritage School, the sibling category applications for this year have been 50% higher than previous years, thereby reducing their general seats for nursery admissions. "We usually expect around 35-40 candidates for sibling category, whereas this time we've already received 70 applications. There are 100-120 general seats, a part of which will now go to sibling category," said Dr Mahesh Prasad, principal, Heritage School. Niti Kaushik, principal, K R Mangalam World School, denied that forms were sold out. "Even though we don't select by draw of lots but we give as many forms as possible and usually there are over a 1,000 applications. After registration closes, parents and children are called for a personal interview conducted over several days and finally we choose 130 children for the upcoming nursery session," said Kaushik. On the other hand, some schools including Shikshantar refused to comment on the number of seats available and the applications given out. "We conduct a draw of lots so it's always a fair procedure. The forms start rolling out in the first week of September and parents usually keep a tab on the date of sale," said a spokesperson from Shikshantar. Parents, meanwhile, have been running around from one school to the other, collecting as many admission forms as possible because most of them are not certain whether their child will make it to a good school or not. "The child is so young that neither can we gauge his talents nor train him in any way. Thankfully, with the draw of lots system there's much more hope for parents," said Kanika Thuwal, a BPO executive and mother of two. Some parents seem to be confused about admission strategies of different schools. "Even though spending weeks in advance to research on each school and gather their application forms on time, I still missed out on a couple of good ones as I was late," said Sanjay Saini, a freelance artist whose only child will get into nursery this year.

nd-a-half, putting parents in a tough spot. Schools which admit children who are three years of age on March 31, 2016, include Amity International in Sector 43 and GD Goenka Public School in Sector 48, among others. Neha Verma, admission coordinator at GD Goenka, said, "We've kept three years as the criterion as it is the norm followed in all Delhi schools." Schools which have three years and six months as their age cutoff, include The Shri Ram School, The Heritage School, Shikshanter, Sun City World School, Lotus Valley International School, DAV Public School, Salwan Public School and Delhi Public School in Sector 45. "We want slightly more mature children in class, which is why we have kept three-and-a-half years as the age criteria," said Anita Malhotra, principal of Lotus Valley International School. Arti Chopra, the principal of Amity International School, said, "There is no uniform rule, so schools in Gurgaon can decide their age criterion independently. There should be no confusion among parents, though, as this is clearly mentioned in admission forms." The disparity in age criterion, though, has left parents confused. Vijay Aggarwal, a resident of South City-II who is seeking admission for his son born on November 15, 2012, said, "My son will be three years and four months on March 31 next year. I can apply to some schools, but most good ones will disqualify him as he would be younger by 45 days as per their criterion. I can't afford to waste a year to apply for one of these schools." Sumit Vohra, who runs a website on nursery admissions in NCR, said, "Many parents cannot get their kids admitted to the desired school due to the age criteria. If they wait for the next year, their child is not eligible in schools such as Amity, which have four years as the upper cut-off age for nursery admissions. More than 1,500 schools in Delhi follow an uniform criteria of three years. Why can't the 100-150-odd schools in Gurgaon do the same?"

believe in rat race, or brand name. I want to look beyond the 'foreign kids pictures' and peer pressure about selecting a school. I want it to be about just plain old rich education, experiential learning, good infrastructure, knowledgeable teachers. I don't want to overwhelm my kids. I want to just let them learn their ABCs in peace. I don't want to bring insecure agendas about the school 'brand' popularity. Not to mention the scary factor of rich kids syndrome. Despite our philosophical approach that it all depends on parents - there is an enormous peer pressure, that we can't ignore.
I guess a lot of schools do an excellent job in PR, media placements, internet - creating that 'good school, international aura' - which may blur our ability to see the 'real' deal. Others may completely miss out on that opportunity and 'appear' to be 'not-so-good' schools. So which are the 'Real' schools? I am sure with so many wonderful schools and visionaries in today's Gurgaon - there already are some great 'Institutions' out there, which we all are looking for.
I visited Shikshantar and Scottish High when I was in India last year. Both of them didn't leave a good impression. I thought that they were all talk and no show. I could easily see the glaring lapses.
My kid recently joined Mother's Pride nursery and contrary to the popular belief (maybe) - I found them to be truly truly amazing (new branch). So I was excited about their extension Presidium (Delhi website looked promising too). And, they have not used money fishing ideas with us YET (again, contrary to popular belief). So I need to know the popular belief about them - education wise, so that I can form better opinion.
In this respect, I would highly appreciate your feedback on schools in Gurgaon. What are your experiences/impressions about the following and WHY:
1) Ardee
2) Shalom
3) Presidium
4) American Excelsior
5) Heritage
6) Shriram
Kindly help me understand your personal experiences with these schools, or any other you may want to recommend.
