I also agree with this. There should be one single application form where parents have to mark there options clearly. The fees and all other infrastructure should be clearly mentioned in the prospectus. Their should be a centralized governing body for this which can run this process. At least this will make the entire process more transparent and hassle free both for child and parents

No point system shud be there in centralised system. Each parent shud fill in the details of the kid and choice of schools and let the system randomly decide the kid's school across the board in one go on one day and then next draw be done after say 10 days for the seats NOT filled and kids who didnot opt for the schools.

I mean LOTTERY system at centralised neutral point so that manipulation at school level is done away with and transparency cum neutrality is also maintained.

Nothing to add but we corrupt jugado indian can rigg any process and then cry dissatisfaction about the system

The major problem is that number of kids is far too more than number of seats.
Dear Mukesh,

I agree ....we can all brainstrom ..some points given by you are very valid !!
Seems to make much more sense than lottery system. However will revert with Pros/Cons/suggestions.
There are pros and cons of every system of admission that we can think of. We have seen corruption even with the point system. Those whose wards did not get an admission could never understand why. I have heard of people getting their child admitted to a school of their choice by paying huge sums of money, without realizing that the school that has suck your pocket at the time of admission has got hold of your pocket for the next 13-14 years.
With the present day demand-supply scenario of seats in schools, draw of lots, if executed well, can be a good solution.
The major point of concern then remains is the multiplicity of admission for many kids leaving scope for confusion. Here, what Sumit Vohra, said can be of use, that is centralization of the process. At least based on area.
Along with the registration form, complete fee details must be given and then parents can choose for which all schools they want to register the child. based on which school received the maximum registration, the draw of lots should happen for that school first and after the names of the candidates are announced, parents should be asked to confirm the same day whether they want to try any other school or not. those who decide to try for any other school, only they must be allowed for the next draw of lot (which would again happen in descending order of number of registrations done).
I am sure even parents will have a preference order for various schools in the locality, and this would be clearly exhibited in the number of registrations done in each school, so probably 90% of the kids admitted to the first school would not repeat the process for the second one.

IF EXECUTED WELL, THIS SYSTEM CAN BE REALLY USEFUL. SCHEDULE FOR REGISTRATION AND DATES OF DRAW MUST BE WELL MANAGED.

Please suggest all of you, what is your opinion about it?
HI Heena....I completely agree with you.....But Can I know what all schools you have shortlisted and why.....
Hi Swati. I,like any other parent, applied to atleast 7 schools with an intention of applying to more. However my top choices were Shikshantar, Heritage and Shri Ram, My husband and I are both from boarding schools wherein we have tried everything from being in a band to pottery to swimming etc. I was okay in studies - never a 90 percenter and yet both of us have done reasonably well in life. Our parents were from the armed forces. We had limited means but ample exposure and middle class values. Hence my top schools were shortlisted basis
a) Values of the school : I didnt want undue pressure on my child. She has to want to learn and not be taught ! I hated the way we went about our academics.
b) Infrastructure so that she can experiment and know what she is good at and thereafter pursue her interests. I strongly believe you have to enjoy what you do else you will never excel.
c) Lastly but importanatly I want her to be a good human being with values as respect for all, knowing that you are an outcome of your inputs. I interacted with a few parents and teachers and found these schools to be closest to my beliefs.

I have been fortunate enought to get into my top two choices through the lottery system (Gods been very kind to me and I cross my fingers) and yet I advocate against it as I simply dont think that a child's future should depend on luck !
Hi Heena
when was your draw in heritage? what are you opting for finally- shikshantar or heritage?
yes, it seems gud to me too.... better than any other Sumit sir.
Hi everybody. Sumit , you are proposing a point system which would be centrally monitored.

1) a. What would you base the points on ? There are arguments and counter arguments for every crieteria - including distance. Will you be able to arrive at a common platform acceptable to most people ?
b.The point system can be surpassed - look at Vasant Valley's admission list of last year. You will find the whose who of Delhi there. Instead of bribing/ using pull with the school authorities, the focus will shift on applying the same tactics with the central committee.

If you must adopt a system for the sake of transperancy, in my opinion, the lottery is better. Its in front of everyone and for everyone to see. There should be a common prospectus with the parents clearly identifying their objective and their choice of schools.

I dont think there is any real solution to this whole saga. You are trying to find a common platform whrere your universe is very diverse. My only request to you is, whatever system you chose, seek feedback BEFORE implementing it else you end up messing with the lives of the children in that particular year. Delhi too is now trying to fnd an alternative to the point system - what happens to the children who had to bear up with it in the last few years ? What business did they have experimenting on children ?
DEAR HENNA .. IN DELHI 2 YEAR BACK VERY PROMINENT SCHOOL OF DELHI HELD LOTTERY IN FRONT OF EVERYONE AND PARENTS BECAME SUSPICIOUS ,,GAVE DHARNA OUTSIDE AFTER THE RESULTS ..WHEN THE BOX WAS OPENED ..LOTTERY OF THE PARENTS WHO WERE NOT SELECTED WERE NOT THERE !

WHOLE MEDIA WAS STANDING OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL
.
NO SYSTEM CAN BE TRANSPARENT (LOT OF SCOPE FOR SCHOOL FOR MANIPULATIONS IN LOTTERY ALSO)

OUR FEATURED MEMBER Mr MAHARAM TANWAR MIGHT BE AWARE OF THIS

I think you didnot read my comment here carefully ..please read it first i am copying it again below

My 2 Cents

If lottery system is not acceptable to all

Then

I WILL ADVOCATE CENTRALISED ADMISSION PROCESS IN WHICH ALL THE SCHOOLS HAVE SAME POINT SYSTEM

and parents can fill some x NUMBER ( say 10 number of forms) atmost

First born and sibling should have equal points

IN SHORT ALL SCHOOLS SHOULD HAVE SAME FORM AND PROCESS SHOULD BE DONE BY INDEPENDENT AGENCY

PARENTS PLEASE TELL ME PROS /CONS OF THIS PROCESS (JUST A SUGGESTION )
!!
Hi Sumit. I seem to be missing out on your first comment and cannot see the copy- paste. Maybe I am not well versed with this site.

What you are saying above is just a question of ironing out a process. Heritage and Shikshantar held the lottery in the most transparent way wherein the parents themselves put in the chits.Parents were called to pull out the chits. Besides you are proposing a centralised system and not school dependant. There has to be vigilance, without which ANY system will fail.

This is just my opinion. I am sure you know whats best as you are getting feedback from a lot many more people. All the best !
