We should take this survey in healthy manner. This is oportunity for schools to ponder on. By focusing on opportunities & weaknesses, schools can draw roadmap for futher excellence / improvement.

Perhaps, some parents may feel(good/upset) by this results. However utmost important " Is your child Happy in School"?. All parmeters do't equally important for all parents. ( For instance- for some parents, extra curriculam is more important than acedemic rigour, for some, social accountability is more than value of money etc. etc.)

So, take your own decision by looking your own priorities. please don't blindly follow the survey.

Hi Sakshi nice argument raised...
Nice points by Dheeraj...
i've commented in length on this in some other discussion thread...repeating the same here to add on this discussion..

Just read the methodology---objective data collected on some quetionnaire/or on phone from the schools, Perceptual Data from a small representative sample of 500 parents, and then extrapolation of them on some standard parameters..
...ok some newly established deep pocket schools give rosy picture of their facilities, so called 100% personal attention to kids by keeping minimal teacher student ratio, having AC in classrooms & buses, giving laptops to teachers & kids, using Educomp's latest teaching software, providiing anything except the real good teaching like-Gymnasiums, Swimming Pool, Courts of Tennis, Basketball, portfolio management etc..;;;;;JUST THINK IS ANY OF THESE FRINGE BENEFITES ARE ADDING REALLY TO THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION OF THESE NEW SCHOOLS or making them better than the age old great reputed schools of Noida we all parents have seen, experinced and know like Apeejay, Somerville, Father Agnel & Cmabridge.
Pls think and give your views....Rset its all our personal choice and preference that will make our informed decisions.
But a reputed news paper like HT should not just be blind by seeing the glossy prospectus, getting data from a smart marketing pro of some of these schools, and later JUST TALKING TO A SELECTED GROUP OF 500 (Only 500) parents to get perceptual data to come out with this ranking which have a tremendous effect on our decision making.
(we know that many of old good schools and especially the Convent ones are not such marketing savvy and do not entertain any such survey approach, so they come inevitably at later rang in the ranking).
Latest Ranking of the HT-C Fore Survey:
1. Step by Step.... (did we hear anything extraordinary about this school?? just started in 2008, ok its fair as they they are aspiring for high standards, have excellent infrastucture....but then...)
2. Amity International-its reasonably good..ok..fair
3. DPS Noida-as usual we all know that it is the Best in Noida...
4. Lotus Valley.....have parentage of Vasant Valley...but then...
5. Kothari International....
6. Appejay-all know that its in the Best 4 in Noida..
7. Somerville-definitely in the top 4 rank of DPS, Amity, Apeejay..
8. Vishwa Bharti-a good school
9. Khaitan Public....
10. Cambridge-historically the second oldest in Noida and a consistently good school with long pedigree...its for all 2 see..
----Where is the Father Agnel?
Some other thoughts of me(commented elsewhere)on the same interesting topic:
Hi ponit here is not which is better or which is not..
Certainly no school or parents of kids in that school will like to hear anything inferior about their choice...
Similar is true for our own Alma-Mater...as we all will vouch for that..
point here is that Survey like these, funded & published by such reputed newspapers should have a transparent yardstick, which must take the historical data of year after year progress, in a holistic manner.
(As some good business magazines are now making their B School survey worthwhile by listing schools in a spectrum and not ranking them, by giving the best ones in each sector/specilisation---such types of segmentation can be used here too.)
One way to see it is, that newer schools should also not be left out and their innovative approach to teaching pedagogy must also be accounted for. They are venturing into this crowded market with tough entry barriers and have to compete with the existing established brands. So they are doing exactly what is required in such market condition--Be Innovatibe, Be Differentiated and Provide a Niche Product/Service.
I think HT could have judged old schools in one list and then a separate list be given for the new entrants, so parents will have a clear know how in helping them to decide better.
We the parents, strongly prefer academic performance; trying hard to make our kids' entry in schools where the toppers are churned out in 10&12th CBSE Board Results. In such scenario only the schools who already have batches running since long in 10&12th classes can be compared.
New schools definitely have started to take batches for higher classes too, but it will take for them some more years to furnish adequate data of board results so that a meaningful information can be derived.
Pls remember we parents have taken our kids just now out of costly play schools and are putting them in formal schools, and we want them to be in the same chosen school till he/she passes out in 12th standard, as none of us would like to go through this grind of admission again & again.
So, there will be a positive bias in mind of all of us towards the established branded schools who already have proven and are continuously proving their mettle.

(P.S.-Ultimately as we all are rational human beings. We and only we know what is the best for our children, and that's why we take optimal decisions and choose the schools of our likings. Survey like this do not have much impact on our thought process in the larger sense. )

Pls keep posting your view points...
Actually, value system also count a lot in school education, just like organizational culture & values. Sustaining the value & credentials year by year are a big challenge for any school.

Some newly ( 2-4 Years) opened school having modern five star facilities etc....try to tempt parents by showing only these tangible results.

We do forget time tested issues i.e. consistency in reputation & credentials, well education system & value of the well established schools, cause these are not noticeable in 1st instant.

So, Choice is yours ........................

I am a parent in gurgaon and talking about the gurgaon survey.
Its true that u cannot take these surveys blindly. u have to take it with a pinch of salt. But if u carefully see the individual marks in different category, u'll feel that it is not totally inaccurate too. If only HT provides the details of the methodology and the actual numbers rather than the final marks, it would be better.
Just like a child scoring 95% marks isn't very much better than a child with 94%, its better to not just see the ranks but actually go deeper. The difference in marks between the 2nd andthe 6th rank is just 2%.
Shikshantar is at no. 2 but its got the least marks in academic rigour. Where it scores is "innovative teaching" (marks not unjustified), parental participation (again marks not unjustified), life skills education (a vague criteria anyway).
Marks given to "Quality of teachers" is similar to almost all the school.

DPS and amity have scored high in academic rigour which is anyway expected given the reputation of these schools in this aspect.

Heritage has scored high in infrastructure and innovative teaching (which is totally justified).
If u see the value for money, the highest scores are for schools with a low fee structure which is self explanatory.

A few inclusions such as DAV, Salwan and bluebells does ring bells though as they don't come in top 10 according to most gurgaon parents i've talked to.
Talking about shriram, according to surveys over the last few years, it has been the consistent topper. What i want to know is that has shriram become something of brand with some amount of hype around it (and therefore has to be kept at the top to make the survey look genuine) or is it actually justified?
Yes I totally agree with you that we should not totally depend upon this survey as if we see the survey result of last year, many of the schools that appeared in last year's survey are not even in the list this time.

How is it possible that one of the school at 4ht or 6th position last year has not even scored 10 th position this year.

What went so drastic with those schools this year, that can only be answered by HT people. Eg. Banyan tree school which was ranked 5th in last year's survey has not been included in this year list and what great DAV school has done this year that it has scored 2nd position this year which was not in their list last year (No doubt DAV is a good school and very much trusted by the people in Gurgaon)

But Is it all the money matters?

Thank God I was not dependent upon the survey for my Daughter's admission

As a someone who has been involved in creating such rankings, let me tell everyone with some authority that these rankings should not be taken seriously.

They are advertisements. Period.

The editorial side of the newspaper/TV channel is rarely involved in creating them. It is the ad sales team which is in charge. They usually go to educational institutes and offer to place them at a higher rank in return for advertisement spending. It's a quid pro quo deal.

They then tie up with some third party surveyor because no channel or newspaper in the country has the resources to conduct such a vast survey on its own. These surveyors have even less regards for ethics than the media house.

Some times a new university or educational institute will itself approach the ad sales team and ask them to create a ranking which features them prominently. They pay for the entire expense that goes into creating such a list (it's not cheap!) + guarantee advertising of X sum over the next few weeks/months. To make it look less obvious they will run the ranking on one outlet and the ads on a sister outlet.

Over the years such "rankings" have become more sophisticated. Well known schools get top rank to make it seem credible. The advertiser school gets No. 2 or No. 3 slot (or anything in the top 10 really) to show it is in the company of the best. If they give it No 1 rank, nobody will take the ranking seriously.

Some years back, IIPM used to be always near the top in all such rankings. Now, its owner Arindam Choudhary is in jail and the degree is worthless.

Anshu

You nailed it :)
