Also, by 3+, today's active kids mostly are toilet trained and learn how to communicate quite well in their pre-schools and also at home
I feel the age should be 3.5 years. they should not be forced to study.
I consider the age of 3+ yrs ( completing March) is just right to enter in school, Kids are very very active these days a scientific theory proves that 90% of the child brain developed between the age group of 3-5yr.

I want to raise questions to all the parents who are in favour of 4+ yr( completing March) as age criteria for school admission
Do you ever think what will be the age of child who is born in the month of Apr or May will be when these kids join the school in nursery ? and do you consider this age is appropraite for them to take admission in nursury class?

Vinit Gupta
well said vinit... i totally agree with you..all those parents who want 4+ as on 31st march think all kids are born in same month....but none has been able to explain if this is the creteria ie 4+ as on 31st march 2011 who will fill in the nursery sessions since kids turning 4 or 4+ have already got admissions in various schools in 2010 itself and it is difficult to explain them one that this way nursery sessions 2011-12 in many schools will go empty..hope you have got my point...
Vinit you are thinking for those kids who are born on Apr or May. But can I ask you what abt those kids who are born in Feb or March? It's surely a matter of discussion abt the age. Lats year also we had a discussion in this forum abt the age problem. This will always remain a big question 3+ or 4+
I completely agree Vinit. Also, no one is forcing the parent of a 3 year old child to send them to school. They always have the option of waiting for another year. But you're taking the worst case scenario as a rule. Not all children have just turned 3 on April 1st. How about kids who're on the other side, turning 3 in April itself. Would you like your child to just sit at home till he's almost 5 if the age criteria is indeed made 4+ years?

Every child's development is different. There are people who've posted their 3 year old is intelligent enough to start school, and others whose child hasn't even started speaking. Parents who feel their 3 year old is too young can always wait an year to ensure their kids are ready, but children who turn 4 years just after March 31st will be forced to stay at home till they're almost 5, and this would force an unfair disadvantage down their throats in their formative years when they must learn and interact.

We HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO opt for a middle path, keeping the age at 3 years but moving the cutoff to October 1st. So that the youngest person to start school is already 3+, and the oldest is less than 4+. This is the only win win situation keeping the age distribution in mind.

Lets stop using the exception of a 'just turned 3' child as the rule to drive this discussion.
4 + is the perfect age. because if u see 3+ is not cognitively prepared to follow instructions and do writing part. Moreever if u talk to teachers of st. thomas who this year handled both 3 and 4 + in nursery they will tell u the difference and the difficulty teaching 3 +. so if u really want to build a confident personality put your child in 4 + only
Thanks for taking this initiative. I sincerely feel that 4yrs would be best age for admission. Looking at the tuff world outside the child will have to study a lot throughout his or her life. To begin at 4yrs is fine by me. This way we will be able to save their innocence a little.
Criteria should definitely be 4+ if we see it from the point of view of kids and not parents because there are still some parents who want to send their kids to school as soon as possible maybe because they are working or whatever other reasons they have but i think kids should atleast spend 2 and a half to 3 years of their childhood at home learning from their parents, grandparents, neighbourhood and surroundings which is not possible if the formal schools have the criteria of 3+, also as Jasmine (of Little Learners) said in one of the discussion forums on Aaj Tak that kids who come to school cannot speak properly also. we all understand that for one year the income of the schools might go down because of the gap between the kids who have been admitted at 3+ and for the kids who will be going in 4+ but its time for schools to understand that schools are meant for a Social cause more than Financial, lets do justice to our kids who once are exposed to the world will be studying and working all their lives so let them enjoy first three years of their childhood.
should be 3 and half year till 31sep2011
yups i agree !! and it will be 30th sep those demanding for 4+ as on 31st march 2011 should understand the fact thats its not possible...
Three plus as on 31st March , and elgibility for forms distribution should be 3years complete as on 3oth Spetmeber, so that we get the childreen with age of 3.5 ultimately or almost 4 at the time the session starts.
