Is there a better method for nursery admissions?
2011-12-12 17:03:46.0
Nursery admissions, an annual affair, have become a nightmare for parents and kids alike. Parents spend many a sleepless nights ahead of their scheduled ‘interaction’ with school principals, just to ensure admission of their kids in nursery. The general sentiment is that it is too much heartache over a process which should be simpler. Getting admission in the city’s best school is not an easy task. .

I shared my view in TOI as
We can go for a Single Window system of admission called Centralised Allotment Process (CAP). It assures transparency and freedom. It can avoid lot of discrepancies and manipulation at all levels in the admission procedure. We can save the time and cost by submitting only one application and tracking the status online. It assures that seats under reservation or physically challenged are allotted to them. An Early Childhood Education Commission at National level and Early Childhood Education Boards at State level should be incorporated to look after the needs related to Early Childhood Education, Development and Regulation. Moreover we can make sure that RTE reaches every child in the country.
Absolutely agree with Lathaa...
The scenario will be the same coz we are marred by the simple fact of demand and supply, the supply is way to less of the demand for so called "GOOD SCHOOLS". The government must take prudent steps to provide world class education for all children of the country, if there are no private schools and only all good government schools which are same all across for everyone . These variations should only be at the higher education level as per the students future plans. But unfortunately in our country where all of us have succumbed to inequalities of income this shall never get achieved.
The least the govt can do is to make the system same all across for every school in all parts whether Delhi or NCR and stop giving confusing admission processes to various schools.
Dear sakshi the last line is more of a shocker- please clarify--- which schools have closed the admission process?????
While some schools have already closed their admission counters, others are on the verge of it, even as several kids still await admission.
No its a generic statement , i think they are doing it for all india level, in delhi atleast no admissions has started yet
Hi Sakshi,
I agree with Latha ji some centralization is required to make it simple and painless. Once I posted some suggessions in AN on this topic, I am posting here again:-
Well the admission process can be made simple if they really really want.
(1) First, make it centralize (zone wise), divide Delhi in 5-6 zones so that parents need to submit form in 2-3 zone as per the most preferable criteria i.e. neighborhood.
(2) One single form should be required to fill in a zone; parents can mention school codes where they want to admit the child.
(3) Filling of forms should be made online. No need to go to fill the forms on school window. For those who can't fill forms online there can be one single location in a school that should accept forms for all the neighborhood schools fall in that zone.
(3) Some mix n matches of both the technique i.e. criteria of point for neighborhood and lottery selection by computer can be applied to select the forms for most of the seats. And few seats (restricted to 5-10%- it MUST not increase this quota) can be sold as school quota seats for which they can charge extra money (definitely not in black/cash), this extra fee for quota seats must be declared in advance and it should not be sold as auction.
(4) Parents can mention in forms that if child name doesn't come in lottery then they want to apply for quota seats in so n so schools for the fees specified in advance by these schools.
(5) LAST but MOST IMPORTANT of all is that this procedure needs to be handled in most transparent manner and all information must be available on internet without asking through RTI. Better if it is handled by some professional organisations outside school authorities.
Have I forgotten to cover any other vested interest? (Except of touts/middleman, illegal stashing of cash by schools/ministers/others)
Thanks,
Manu Dhawan
