New Delhi | Last updated on: February 16, 2013 5:30 AM IST

Nursery list out but parents can't rejoice as Delhi HC is yet to decide on admissions criteria

Most schools in Delhi came out with their first list of selected children for nursery admissions on Friday.

But the parents of the lucky ones are not sure if they can celebrate yet as the Delhi High Court is still to decide if the existing admission criteria can be continued. The court is likely to give its verdict on the point system next week.

The schools, nevertheless, have come out with the first list according to the schedule fixed by the directorate of education (DoE).

"We are carrying out the admission process as per the DoE guidelines and the provisions laid down in the Right to Education (RTE) Act. We have declared the list of selected candidates," said Ameeta Mulla Wattal, principal of Springdales School on Pusa Road and vice-chairperson, National Progressive Schools Conference - an umbrella organisation of more than 110 private schools in Delhi.

"But if the court's decision is anything contrary, it will be frustrating for parents whose children have already got through. Carrying out the entire process, which takes oneand-a-half months, all over again will not be possible. Our teachers are going to be busy with the Board exams that start on March 1," Wattal added.

The Vasant Valley School also declared its list of selected candidates. However, the school added a rider while putting out its list: "All admissions for the academic session of 2013-14 shall be subject to the decision of the Honourable Delhi High Court."

Several schools have chosen to defer their lists to next week awaiting the HC order.

Though the court had not stayed the admission process, it had said schools should not conduct admissions till it gives further guidelines on the matter. It had made clear that if there is a change in the admission process, it will be effective from the next session, that is, 2013-14.

"We all have our fingers crossed. A change in the point system will lead to unnecessary chaos," said a principal, who did not wish to be named.

It's a very frustrating situation, besides staying in vasant vihar my son has not got thru at any school including Shriram which is 50 meters, Modern 100 meters, DPS Vasant Vihar within 1/2 km, Tagore 1/2 km.......I wish the entire admission process is scraped

which school is better apeejay, saket or st.pauls, haul khas?

Me too want a fresh start....but its not possible i know...this HC thing is not gonna help us...

I don't think so that 69 has a chance, my son is at 31 which is also not possible

Our honourable High Court does not understands the anxiety of the parents and seriously doubt if HC decision will make any change

Vikas Bharti School Rohini Result is out on their website

Vasant Valley - It seems only those who scored RAA/National awardee etc got through to this school.... And in Springdales, its either alumni or sibling except those 2 candidates in general & EWS/DG.

Why Modern School has not show points scored by each applicant? No transparency for the benefit of the school for obvious reasons I guess !!

Very unfair practices by almost all reputed schools !!!!

when can we have an end to it, god only knows!

Amit - fully agree with you on your analysis and interpretations!

@Rahul ,Reported to TOI and one Hindi paper but lets see as article by Mr Vohra would be coming tomorrow or day after depending on space But we not sure whether this point would be covered or not ?

No nursery order yet, parents on tenterhooks

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

New Delhi: The first list of candidates selected for nursery are out in most schools but these are tentative at best. With the possibility of the Delhi high court changing the admission system altogether – perhaps this year itself – parents are not celebrating yet.
“If the high court quashes the existing points system,” says Mahesh Kumar, who has already completed the admission process for his kid at a Safdarjung Enclave school, “I want to know what will happen next. Will the school give a complete refund? Because, it is not my fault and I am not withdrawing my child from the school of my own accord.”
“My kid got into four schools,” says Manish Singh, “ and I’ve already admitted him into one. But it was written at the bottom of the list that it is a tentative one.” He is hoping that the high court decision won’t change things for him.
“Nothing will change because there’s no monitoring,” says Suresh Jain whose child has not made it to any school. “If the system is scrapped, there’ll be last-minute chaos and schools will do what they want.” There are parents who haven’t managed to secure seats anywhere despite having good schools within “a few metres” of their homes. “My son hasn’t got through any school,” she said listing out a few prominent names with distances from her house in Vasant Vihar. “I
wish the entire admission process is scrapped,” wrote a frustrated parent on admissionsnursery.com.
That the points system has some serious drawbacks is evident from the fact that G D Goenka, Vasant Kunj, will have practically an all-girls

class if all the kids in the first list take admission. Of the 75 children it has selected in the first list, only four are boys. The school had awarded 10 points for a girl child and this was independent of points allotted to a first child. In many schools, points were given for first or girl child. In another school, the vast majority of
students belong to linguistic and cultural minorities. “It is most difficult for the regular middle class parents who don’t have enough money to pay for management seats,” says Sumit Vohra of admissionsnursery.com, “but I also find that parents have finally accepted the neighbourhood issue and have applied and admitted kids to schools closer home.”
However, several schools, fearing a repeat of the admission process, have chosen to withhold results. Ahlcon International School in Mayur Vihar has withheld the first list and will inform parents of developments on February 19; Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh, too are yet to come out with their lists. Despite the directorate of education asking schools to display the breakup of points earned by each candidate, several schools haven’t complied.

LITTLE TO CELEBRATE: HC may change the nursery admission system

In short buying a seat is a long term investment...one can secure a seat not only for his next child but also for next generation.....

i really hope that this point system should be scrapped, so that non alumni/ non Sibling get admitted somewhere
