I think withdrawing points for parents' education and profession will make sense only if the entire point system is reviewed.
1. Alumni points : clearly discriminates against people who have moved within delhi or come from outside delhi. What purpose does it solve? Are schools trying to create some kind of legacy classes - grandfather, father, son and their 20 next generations from the same school....wow!!
2. Sibling : Clearly discriminates against those who are admitting their First child!!
3. Neighbourhood points : Schools have their own way of defining...some schools are OK with getting students from 15 kms!!
4. Cultural/social contributions- what is meant by this? How do you define it?
5. Educational qualification/profession of parents: Children cannot be discriminated against coz their parents did not study or land-up a good job for whatever reasons!!
And then whats the point of having a point system when schools are deciding on their on to not even display points against those called for interaction or shortlisted for admission!!!!
The only criteria should be neighbourhood....and the distance points should be uniformly decided!!!
Lets try to see whats the way forward rather than cribbing about what has happened and could have been done. I personally feel Mr. Lovely wanted to favour a few schools and hence he waited for their fee payment date to get over and kicked up this ruckus the same evening. I believe he deserves the points in the professional criteria if he ever applies for admissions for his kids. Done like a true professional.
To answer Sumit's query the following are the details of the schools and how much points we have lost:
Tagore - 30
Gyan - atleast 30
Heritage - 30
Sanskriti - 40
Laxman Public - 20
Ryan - 10
Bloom - 10
Now the points i would like to highlight are these three:
1. After this order we don't stand a chance in the most of schools which were very promising till yesterday
2. We had admissions in Amity which we have foregone since we had 70 points in heritage which was a school of choice for us. Now I am at 40 points in heritage. I have not stopped kicking myself. (But since Mr. Lovely is so friendly with Amity, may be he can help me get back my seat!)
3. The most critical issues is that we made a shortlist of schools to apply by seeing where we stand a good chance on the basis of the given criteria. Now we realise that in the chanced circumstances our entire short list was flawed and we shoud have applied to different schools, this means we have not been given a fair chance.
Now the way forwrd should be that some of us through this forum should club funds and take a stay order first thing Monday morning.
However, to clarify my stand let me say that inspite of both of us being PGs and professionals we see the sense in saying that a child's admission should not depend on the parent's qualifications. It is like the rich becoming richer story. But, the way this is done is bad and to be fair to us, all other discrimatory criteria should also be removed.
SUMIT, CAN YOU HELP US WITH THE STAY. WE WILL BE MORE THAT WILLING TO PAY FOR IT
With only 160 posts to this discussions in past 24 hours, it appears only a few of thousands of parents who are seeking admission of their child are affected. if you carefully examine the replies of the parents, most of them have mentioned schools which are based in South Delhi only. As such this discussion is biased and cannot be termed as representing parents from all of Delhi.

1)Getting schools to change their point system when half the schools have already come out with their lists
smacks of discrimination. These new guidelines should either be for all the schools or for none.
2)These guidelines should have been issued before the beginning of the admission process.Parents had made an informed choice about filling up the forms depending upon the existing point system.Changing the point system at this stage has left them completely flabbergasted. Now who is going to compensate for their loss if they don't secure admission for their child in the limited number of schools whose form they had filled and the point systems of which have suddenly been changed. Either start the whole process anew or leave it as it it.
3)If giving points for parents' educational background is discriminatory then going by the same parameters, giving points for alumni or sibling is also discriminatory. So creating these new guidelines at this late stage is completely uncalled for.
