NAVBHARAT TIMES
The last day of submitting applications for nursery admissions on Wednesday saw posh schools of Delhi receiving a massive number of applications.
Springdales School’s Pusa Road branch with just 102 seats and its Kirti Nagar branch with 68 seats received some 7,000 applications, so did DPS RK Puram, which has two junior schools, founder of admissionsnursery.com Sumit Vohra said.
In a survey by the website, localities with more schools had more applicants as parents scrambled to stick to the 8-km radius rule. Neighbourhoods with more schools such as Rohini, Saket, Dwarka, Vasant Kunj and Pitampura saw parents applying to 15-20 schools. The schools in these areas received double the number of applications.
But with no clear guidelines on the upper age limit, parents kept guessing.
Under the new guidelines, admissions to nursery classes will be given on the basis of four criteria – neighbourhood up to 8 km radius, sibling studying in the school, parent alumni and inter-state transfer cases.
The maximum weightage with 70 points out of 100 in open category seats is for children who live within 8 km radius of the school. Applicants who have sibling studying in the same school will get 20 points and five points will be added by default in the application of girls and children of school alumni.
In DPS East of Kailash, out of a total 3,905 registrations, only 79 students have more than 75 points. “These students are likely to get direct admission,” Vohra said.Out of 308 students having 75 points, a whooping 231 students have five points for inter-state transfer.
The fate of the remaining applicants will be decided by draw of lots. With only 117 seats in DPS East of Kailash, the probability of getting admission works out to one in every eight applicants for students with 75 points. In DPS Vasant Vihar with slightly less applicants, the probability of students with 75 points is one in every four.
Schools will declare the first list of selected candidates on February 28 and the second list is expected on March 15. The admission process will end on March 31.

thanks for your quick response.
Is there anything in written from DOE or govt.
Some schools are saying preference is for 1 KM
Do reply
aaditya, such schools should be brought to the notice of DoE. This is applicable only to EWS admissions.
I know this is for EWS even i am talking about the EWS.
Schools are saying in EWS that 1 KM is preference. If this is criteria then nobody will get admission in EWS beyond 1 KM....
EWS Neighbourhood Criteria :
DOE Delhi has laid down the following neighbourhood criteria for EWS and DG which was implemented from 31.1.2012 after HC Order.
Admission shall first be offered to eligible students belonging to EWS and DG residing within 1 km of the specific school.
In case the vacancies remained unfilled, students residing within 3 km of the school shall be admitted.
If there are still vacancies, then the admission will be offered to other students residing within 6 km of the institution.
Students residing beyond 6 km shall be admitted only in case vacancies remain unfilled even after considering all students within 6 km area.
can anybody help & let me know the final working of EWS category.
Mahram is saying 1 draw will be held for all the 8 KM, but Lathaa is saying something different. Preference is for 1 KM then i don't thing anybody will get admission if he is residing beyond 1 KM
Since distance is 8 km at present 6 - 8 km distance slab can be added. Distance wise slab of draw of lots anyway.
As per DOE guidelines
IV.Schools not giving/accepting forms to/from EWS & Disadvantaged
Group applicants who are residing more than lKM away from school
Directorate of Education vide order dated l3.12.2012 directed that every
school shall ensure that the Registration form in the prescribed Proforma are
made available free of cost to all applicants under EWS & Disadvantaged
without any barrier/hindrance. Schools should accept forms from all
applicants under EWS & Disadvantaged group irrespective of distance of
residence from school, and then segregate them slab -wise for draw of lots.
what is the current order, I think this is the old one but from this year onwards 6-8 KM
In my case only a few schools are coming with in 1 KM & in those schools seats are very less
Yes 6-8 km and then beyond 8 k.m.
ALUMANIS shud be given preference over the interstate tranfer cases.
Priya ahluwalia, ok, but what for those who are not alumni. I do not vote for transfer and alumni.
This i meant in the context as the interstate transfer points are applicable in all the schools applied by those parents getin those extra 5 points and ahead of people getin 70 points atleast givin prefence to alumanis gives a tiny bit better chance to such parents in atleast 1 school !!
whatever said and done these guidelines jus work for a very few people in all which is a shame !!
