NEW DELHI: Nursery admissions, which are on in full swing in the city, have left a large number of parents disappointed. The children of most of these parents could not make the cut to any of the schools this year after a draw of lots. SONU MEHTA / HT Parents protest against lack of transparency in the nursery admission process at Jantar Mantar on Sunday.
Miffed at the way the admission process was carried out, a group of parents from Admissionsnursery.com on Sunday staged a protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding greater transparency in the inter-state transfer points allotted to the parents.
They alleged that the interstate transfer criterion was subject to manipulation.
“Even though the DOE has allotted five points to interstate transfer criterion, it proved unfair for most of us. It is completely ambiguous and leaves a lot of parents at a disadvantage,” said Tarun Bhattacharya, a parent.
Some parents had applied to as many as 30 schools. But their hopes too have been flagging as the lottery process in these schools progresses. With more than 4.5 lakh applications received by nearly 970 private schools in the city, parents say that chances of their children making it to a school of their choice are slim.(Data Given by Mr Sumit Vohra)
“Most parents who have applied to schools have 70-75 points. Of those who have 75 points, there are parents with points for alumni or inter-state transfers. All these parents are put through the lottery process. So for an average of 100 seats, there are nearly 1,5002,000 applications and most of us end up being left out,” he added.

Rahul You are spot on but last year high court gave this ruling that nursery does not come under RTE as RTE is valid from 6yrs to 14 yrs and thats why he asked LG to frame guideline in sync with RTE .
Yes Rahul,i concur with you and this type of unrest has never been seen earlier before results .
Lets go and meet LG ... we will ask him to make necessary changes in the system right away .... requesting you all to share your numbers... lets make a group and fight... my number is 9953399188 - Poonam ..
senseless point system against our very inocent kids, why 75 pointers kids are special and mine not?? why alumini , transfer cases and luxurious EWS's?? 100 baccho ki bali chadegi tab ek FAKE admission hoga iss delhi mai.
Mr Vohra – Undoubtedly you have done much for the parent community in past so many days by way of your activism and zeal for the purpose. Request you to join the group who is planning to visit LG tomorrow. Your presence definitely equates to the presence of entire parent community in Delhi.
Hw does alumni point supports right to education? Can we imagine IITs , IIMs or any educational institute favouring their alumni ward during admission process. If any uneducated parent have dream of educating their ward and is denied because he did not go to any school.
Why extra points for transfer case, is it because they are new to city, they dont know city landscape? Sounds funny ! Is transfer was voluntary request or routine process. In my opinion it also does not contribute to right to education.
I have applied in 22 schools but chances are very slim as my ward has only 70 points for distance. Just analyzed list of selected candidates, most of the selected candidates have 75 points because of transfer and alumni point.
I hope there is golden pot at the end of the rainbow.
Aswini, If you google alumni and sumit vohra , you will find Mr Vohra is instrumental in getting it decimated to 5 from school giving upto 40.
It is clear screening and Mr Vohra wanted these points to be abolished.
@ Sajjad - there is a forum created on FB by some of the like-minded parents who wants to take the issue to LG and possibly to courts. There are couple of posts on AN.com as well, else you can find this group on FB by key word 'Petition against Nursery School Admission Criteria'.
