Nursery admission in parents’ crosshairs

Monday, 14 April 2014

Uncertainty still clouds parents with regard to nursery admissions in the national Capital as the Supreme Court hasn’t yet issued an order for the next date of hearing of the petition filed by parents asking for inter-State transfers (IST). With the SC’s stay on admissions, as per the order on April 11, the High Court’s hearing, dated April 16, hangs on a string.

Parents are now in a haze as to whether a decision will be made this month or not. According to the SC order passed by a two-member bench of Justice HL Dattu and Justice SA Bobde, permission to file Special Leave Petition (SLP) is granted. Thus, while the petitioners are already filing an SLP for IST, many parents are contemplating going to court to file a SLP asking for the complete withdrawal of IST.

Rikky Khorana, a parent from West Delhi, said that a lot of parents including him have created a group on Facebook and WhatsApp where they are consensually taking a decision on what to do. “The Supreme Court order is very vague and leaves us hanging midair. We haven’t decided anything yet, but based on how things are shaping up, we might go to court. We are in talks with the lawyer and we may also file a PIL saying that this chaos is affecting the future of our children. However, we are a whole lot of parents who are trying to work in sync so that we don’t add to the mess and instead try and solve it,” he added.

Some feel that getting relief from the SC with regard to IST will be a challenge. “As the petitioner will file an SLP now, it will take time. Therefore, it seems that the term will start in July only. Now it is up to the selected 70 pointers or alumni/sibling parents to approach the SC for relief which, as per my experience in SC, will not come easily as the High Court has seriously erred in allowing piecemeal admission without deciding on the IST issue,” said a member of an online forum Sachhin Sapra.

However, another parent Richa Nidhi showed her angst against parents who were not putting an ending to the chapter. “The confusion seems everlasting. Whatever the court’s decision is, either way kids will suffer. Till now it’s just a stay but the IST issue can go further if parents continue to file SLPs. There is no stopping them and all we can do is just discuss and end up with no solution,” she said.

While prior concern of most parents is the delay in session, some parents are miffed with school managements charging them fees in the interim. Sumit Vohra, founder, admissionsnursery.com, said, “Parents are not at all clear on what the state of affairs is right now. Schools have officially stated that they will not begin classes any time soon and if not now it is being deduced that the term will begin in May or July. In such cases, parents are a little cut up about the fact that they are being charged the fees for the first quarter which their child has not attended

Its a good school. If you do not have seat in any other minority school, then please enrol your kid in this school.  For more feedback on this school, please read the thread "NEED RATING FOR THESE SOUTH DELHI SCHOOLS" started by Mark Williamson

Thanks Sakshi..and Ankush
joo joo parents sochte hain ke court jane sey seat mil jati hai pls abni galat fahmi door kar layn, itihas gawah hai ki court jane se sirf tareek milti hai seat nahi !
Seat milti hai to 4th draw that wait karne say aur apne khuda par child pe wishwas rakhne say,
As the seats are based on lucky draw.
Kuch log jo PIL kar rahe hain woh yeh soch rahe hain ki agar unke liya seats bar jayengi to unka lucky draw main select honay ke chances barh jayenge, yeh apko galat fahmi hai, jiska hona hota hai uska lakh applications main bhi nikal jata hai aur jiska nahi hona hota uska panh application mein bhi nahi nikalta, yeh sabh child ki destiny hai aap issmein kuch nahi kar sakte, Mera pas is bat he pakka saboot hain, One of my known lived close to a very good school and he desperately wanted a seat in that school so what he did was he filled 5 forms in that school for his boy, as he had a long name with middle name so he shuffeled his first, middle and last names and was managed to fill 5 forms in that school and then came the draw date for 70 pointers their were 2800 applicants and 29 seats to be filled and guess what he did not get any seat in the draw.
I will tell you one more incident one of my friend filled the form is Delhi's 2nd best and largest school he never expected any luck here as in this school their were whooping 4500 applicants for 70 pointers draw and only 16 seats and guess what this childs name was selected out of 4500 applicants, so it is all luck and destiny and its all in the hands of your khuda so believe in him and believe in your child, he will do the best for your child.

You are right Rahul, but people think PIL is road to success whereas  Patience is the key, wait till 3rd list, 4th list etc..

Dear Mr. Grover do you think that by PILs is it necessary that we shall get admission

@Sangeeta, I am not in favour of any PIL and also, do not think PILs will give seats to anyone. Its all about the child destiny which will give the seat in some school.

Patience is the key many will get seats if they wait for 3rd, 4th and subsequent lists.

Yes I am working and now planning to send her to her playschool..
