Sakshi

I feel there is difference between SC and HC cases.

SC case is regarding Fee i.e. Profiteering in the name of Fee. SC decision is for the benefit of all children.

On the other hand HC case is regarding distance criteria which is benefiting some and is against others. The main issue for HC would be that there is no injustice/favour to anyone. For the sake of equality, HC has also asked Central Govt to come out with their policy for all schools on Govt land through out the country.

May be it turns out to be a long drawn battle. Only thing is all parents and children should not be harassed by such interventions during the admission process. I feel the courts should decide a cut off date after which any change in guidelines should be applicable only for the next year.

Dr Rakesh

You are right but media is anticipating that they are those same schools with same clause on their lease deed regarding neighborhood criteria and fees( Out of 448 school ) which have these clauses respectively.

This is thought process of person writing the article so can go either way ,Might go long  way if school lobby losses..i don't want to speculate but they have money power and battery of lawyer to go to any extent.

Hi Sumit,

Take my example. I have no schools within a 1km distance, and only 2 mediocre schools within 3 kms, in a high density area. I know from parents from previous years that the ratio of seats to applications in our area is about 5:100. If I extend distance to 6-7 kms, I have at least 5 good schools within our reach.

Though I can understand why these parents are up in arms, I am completely in favour of the DoE guidelines, as it is for the larger good. However, for cases like mine, and many others, situation is very unfavourable, and if this goes ahead, we are likely to see people moving to areas with good schools in the coming years.

Parents who slammed APP govt crieteria actually don't know why these guidelines issued and what were the basic reasons behind all this. If these guide lines are not there then schools will do whatever they want and still their kids will not get addmission in any of the school. Schools starts filling seats with donations then. See m staying in vasant kunj and DPS , bloom , vasant valley is just 3-5 km range but my daughter won't get addmission there in 2013 . she is traveling 8 km daily ,it took 1 hour to reach home in afternoon . Now m applying for my son he has sibling points but i want them to be in vasant kunj only.Though all the schools are in 6 km area.but i know he will also not get addmission in vasant kunj.

Agreed, but then the neighbourhood guidelines should apply to all schools. Current system makes it biased in favour of those who live near these 298 odd schools.

Absolutely right Deepmala. I had the same scenario in my elder daughter's admission. In the end I had to pay donation to get a seat in my neighborhood school.New Parents do not understand that the whole situation is for the benefit for parents only.

Sumit,
You are in favour of DOE guidelines because you might be having some good schools in the neighbourhood. Parents arguing against DOE guidelines, like me, are those who don't have good schools, out of the 298 schools, in the neighbourhood. Indian School is next door to my residence but I know it's damn difficult getting admission for my daughter as everybody within 8 km will have equal neighbourhood points. So I am in favour of a system which gives equal opportunity to all, not biased towards those who live near few schools in DOE order.

Shobhit is Alumni, Sibling, First Child, Gild Child, Single Parent etc etc points are the right way of giving admissions

Either there should be no criteria just a lottery system, but that again not very transparent everyone know how school plays. So, think for a some concrete system of points instead

Right Sakshi,

Parents who had already gone through the admission process earlier also, really appreciate the new DOE guideline.

Sumit,

As per few sources, govt is trying it's level best to ensure the new guidelines stay.

I am a last year parent and i applied in 22 schools and my child did not get through any despite the fact that good schools are near my vicinity. DPS , Bloom, Vasant Valley, Ryan etc.( Just walking distance)

I was forced to send my child more then 12 kms. It takes more then 1 hrs sometimes to reach school.

At the end i saw my child suffering and recently i pulled my child out and put him back in his play school.

I am not saying just because these schools are near to my house but i have gone through this so called

" nursery non sense" last year and i can see that this new DOE guidelines will favor parents in long run.

May be govt can increase the distance criteria.

There are so many parents i know last year who could not get admission as these schools have there own criteria eg: Vasant Valley ask for Proven track record of parents, This school is just 5 mins walking from my house but since i do not have any proven track record ( prize in field of sports, social service etc) hence my child could not get through. This is a very partial criteria of admission process.

The schools giving points to girl child. This is unfair to boy child.

Schools giving points to alumina ? This is unfair with child whose parents are not studied in Delhi.

There are so many criteria's which are not in favor of admission.

With DOE new guidelines i can see some hope.

This is just my personal experience from last year, this is not to be offended to anyone.  I do respect the point of view of each parent in this portal.

Very true Meenakshi

Just for helping parents could you share few vasant kunj neighborhood points last year and cut off last year.

I completely agree with you Meenkashi same is the case with me.
