Sandeep,

Agree school can't replace parents...School can provide a platform for " development" of child. A Good school and good teachers can help the parent in " Identifying" the Strength/Weaknesses of Child.. basis which a parents can draw a long term plan for the kids. I mean if a kid is Good in sports so we need to arrange for a special training for that sports.. NO DOUBT it is responsibility of Parents.

Only things we ( At least I am) looking forward for at this juncture is :

1) Safety,Security & Basic Hygiene for the child
2) An ambience ( I mean " Sangat" ) - So that child can learn good things/develop good habits. For this looking for a decent school where child from good ( From Good I mean Good Values/ethics & Educational Background) family background are taking enrolment.
3)School should have Progressive ( Conventional + Extra Curricular) teaching methodology

Once the child is crossing class 5/6 , I feel we need to to reassessment of the overall development/knowledge etc.. and Need to take a corrective measure,if any required including change of the school.

I am sure that now, NO school is having faculty like DPS RK Puram ( 10- 12 years back) had where entire class used to get selected in premium institution without any coaching etc etc.

Now there is real " deficit" of quality teaching staff/subject experts......that's why city like Kota is having 20/25 K students from all over India pursuing coaching...

In this "Commercial" market of education instead of going behind the " Big Brands" my take is go for " Value for Money" ( although that is also very costly)....

Happy parenting...see you if you are admitting your ward in GDG.

No Manish I am not going to put her in GDG.

My philosophy is " Access of everything is bad !!! " . All I am looking to give my child is a school with all extra curricular and all new methodologies available which are required in this competitive env . Rest is onto the school and Us to make sure she uses them to the best of her abilities and performs well in her core area . Ultimately it is her, her teachers and Us who need to work hard to use the facilities as platform to launch herself .

If I see her being good in something , I would invest money on developing her special skills rather than spending money on giving her good grades in school . Now a days even 99% in school grades does not ensure child admission for a good course in college .

Thats my ideaology . School brand name will not matter much in future . It may be a status symbol for myself to brag about my daugter being in a SO and SO school in my friend circle. But i can't risk her being falling for the better amenities or social circle of high end schools. Rather i would give her less facilities and make her use it well for the best of her.

:)

Again, Great Thought, I am continuously reading this forum but you are the only one giving your views very clearly that not going for so so called big brand. Now I am also withdrawing my decision to opt GDG.

Hope I will get good school which will not have world class infra but good education and help the child to accept challenges in limited access and move ahead.

sandeep! which school r u going to choose for kid.

Thanks @priyanka and pankaj i applied late as i was not sure that it will be mad rush in gurgaon . i applied in dav sec 14 last day ( i never wanted my child to be in that school eventhough i am also a davian ), amity sec 40 and manv rachna 46 . My ward is selected in ryan and mr 46.i will go for mris 46 mostly because of fixed type fee structure and well laid facilities which seems little higher but value for money out of the available options .

I will be vigilant and keep track of my child's performance . Let's see how she picks up and will take it from there .

I agree with you Sandeep!
Yes Sandeep,
To take this “Balance” call... I think (pure personal thoughts) that we need to understand that what is luxury and what is Essential/ Necessity as far as Infrastructure is concerned (Obviously Quality of Academics – NO Compromise).Today we use AC at home in Summers & warmers in winters these were the luxury when we were ( at least I was Growing)...In my time my engineering college fee was mere Rs. 684/ semester ( i.e. SIX Month) and Principal made it to Rs. 700 then there was a big strike in the college..... References /Benchmarks changes with time. Mobile was a luxury in 1997/98 (Rs. 16/call) now it’s part of life so as the technology......The point I am trying to make is that in the current context , we as a parent need to be clear what is “luxury” and unwanted and what is the “ comfort” ........ Any school (irrespective of NAME/FAME) which is having the basic Good infrastructure /resources, sound (ethical with long term vision) promoters is fine....But hard fact remains same “No School” (except the total charity schools/ Govt Schools) is going to spare the parents as far as recovery of money (in the form of fees) ....No concession (At least in Private schools) is allowed ... and most ( Except few like Scottish High – charging around 1.75 to 2.00 Lac) of the school is having fee structure with 5/10% variance....

@maneesh and sunny . Sure every Parent want his/her child to have all the luxuries in life . But I want my child to be level headed, grounded and be strong enough to enjoy life with or without the eminities or what's being called necessities of today's world . Don't want to burden herself to be the best as part of being in one of the best school.

Thats my thought . Life is to be taken easy in my views as we the planner always fail in front of THE ACTUAL PLANNER .

I am not being serious over here just want everybody to be cool and satisfied with whatever options they are getting and available. As every child is good in its own way and will find their own way. Every school is having good , avg and bad student . And I want my child to understand and choose the right path on its own .

Oh yes Sandeep . ... Congrats

Ha ha thanks ....

sandeep which school u have finalized

mris 46 . Let's c how it goes from here .
