Hi Sakshi,
I applied for refund from DAV Pushpanjali 1 month back on 21st March, 2017, it was within 15 days of admission in nursery class. Today after 1 month they refund the money & deducted many charges including 1 month tution fees stating that this is as per government norms. Kindly advise
Hi Sakshi,
I need your help.
First some background: I stay in Vasant Kunj. Filled close to 35 forms for my Son, was not able to get admission in any of the school for him. It was disheartening because he was not eligible even in draw of lots for most of the schools because of non - availability of Sibling (First Born) or Alumni (We both are first generation delhi residents) points and were not so lucky in a few which held the Draw of lots.
We got a call from Bhatnagar School but looking at the feedback of this community let it pass. Later, through management quota, I got my son admitted to Birla Vidya Niketan and he is going there since last couple of weeks. We are very satisfied with the school, its process, its methods...but the only issue is the distance and commute time. In the afternoon, the van takes time from 25mins - 1 hour depending on the traffic and the poor child sleeps most of the days in the van itself and is become very cranky sometimes.
Today, I got a call from Heritage Vasant Kunj and they have asked if i would like to take admission in their school. And I am confused and need help of you and other learned parents in making this decision.
My confusion
Birla Vidya Niketan - Old & Traditional, Established, Reputed (Consistently ranked in top 10 of Delhi/top 30 of India) School with very big Infrastructure (play ground, facilities), ~12 kms from our place. Daily commute time is an issue. Bigger issue i believe would be the group for my child because most of his class mates would of Saket, Pushp Vihar, GK area and so for every function, every event, every get together, everything and everytime it would be a project.
Heritage - New School, Yet to establish (Ranking is in ~50s), Infrastructure is small (No playground), is experimenting new age learning (I got to know that they don't have any exam till class 8 and every concept is taught on experiential basis), ~2.5 km from my place.
Kindly help in knowing your choice and detailed reasoning behind your choice.
Fees of Heritage or refund from BVN is not an issue and immaterial.
Thanks & Regards,
Vikas
Parents should always consider the distance factor their children covers to and fro daily to school. Long journeys to school will have negative impact on child's health and education achievement levels. It will kill child's concentration. Their performance gets affected both physically and psychologically. Schools of any type must be easily accessible at least up to elementary level. A child should enjoy going to school and learning at initial years.
Vikas, I can understand your confusion. Last year even my son did not got anywhere expect Bhatnagar and we did not sent him to Bhatnagar because of the reviews. We admitted our son to a school which was 15 kms away from our residence. Because of distance factor i had to wake up my child early, and travelling takes more than an 1 hour especially in the afternoon. My child use to sleep in van and gets really cranky..My son's group was also of GK, Saket, CR Park etc to it was task for us for every get together... Even sometimes going to school for a PTM was a big problem.. This year our son got admission in Vasant Kunj only and the school is 1 Km from our house and we are happy and our son is also happy going to school.... this was my side of story.
No doubt BNV is a very good and sought after school however Heritage Vasant Kunj is also old and established school...I have a colleague in my office whose son had passed out class 12 from Heritage VK says that its a good school and teachers are really nice.. Academic wise my colleague was happy with the school... Sorry i do not know that there are no exams till class 8.....and i have not seen the school also so cannot comment much on infrastructure but the reviews i have heard are always positive.
You can go to Heritage school during disbursal time and ask the parents what they feel about the school...
Parents in this forum who have got admitted their wards in Heritage please share experience and help Vikas.
And i agree with what Lathaa Ji said...
Vikas, I also agree with Lathaa as distance matters and it is very important factor for a child of 3-4 years. He/she can not travel that much every day and it will affect him/her mentally too. According to met he children should go to a good school where he can learn the things and can enjoy the school. BVN is a good school but your child matters the most and you can always get him admitted next year or after that if you are not satisfied. So please take out your child and get him/her admitted in the nearest school..Good luck.
