Delhi school admissions start from mid-December

Senior officials from Delhi government's Directorate of Education shared that nursery admissions will likely to start from December 17- 18.

Parents are opting for NCR schools since many schools don’t have upper age cut off limit.

With a limited number of seats and stringent admission criteria, the season for admission to the class nursery, KG and first in Delhi schools will start early this year -- from December 17 or 18. With the age for admission to nursery class fixed at 4-year-olds, the age for admission to KG and class 1 will also increase to 5-year-olds and 6-year-olds respectively.

Confirming the same, senior officials from Delhi government's Directorate of Education shared that nursery admissions will likely to start from December 17- 18. Calling it a tentative date, a senior official said that the admission schedule will be released on Monday.

According to the officials, most parents are opting for NCR schools since many schools don't have an upper age cut off limit.

Explaining the problem, Sumit Vohra, an education expert, who runs a portal, www.admisionsnursery.com, said, "The Delhi government in 2015 had proposed and implemented an upper age limit for admissions in the pre-primary classes or nursery and kindergarten classes.

"As per the criterion, the child ought to be less than 4-years-old for admission to nursery and less than 5-year-old for admission to kindergarten. For admission to class I, the child has to be 6 or less on the cut-off date".

However, the order, issued by the Directorate of Education was contested in the Delhi High Court and due to the delay and the impending admissions, the rule was stayed for implementation in 2018-19 for private schools.

Government schools, on the other hand, are following the rule and ensuring the admission criteria is implemented. DoE Director, Sanjay Goel said that the upper age limit will come into force for private schools from 2019 onwards.

The upper age limit will be a big concern for many parents as thousands of them had to seek admission in NCR schools as they could not secure a seat. With the upper age limit provision added to the already lengthy list of schools, getting admission to the school of their choice will only add to the perilous process.

Delhi nursery admissions 2019 are expected to start in the second week of December. Private schools will be allowed to implement their point based system on the approved list of points as qualified by Delhi High Court.

Thank you for this article. The schedule as per the article will be out today? And the point where it mentions "Age for admission to nursery class is fixed at 4", this is the upper limit right?

I think today which will come out would be for upper classes not for Nursery. I was just infomred by someone from DOE .. Notification for Nursery class would be out as usual somewhere mid of Dec only.

@prateek- at the time of filling forms..a photo opt of birth certificate (self attested) is acceptable. After the confirmation of admission..the schools call for the original birth certifi ate
